I mean, frankly, unless the Jazz get one of the 10 best players in NBA history, they're never going to be true contenders, so settling for a 2nd round exit and never pretending they'll be more is probably their best path.

That's pretty much what they've been doing for decades (but with the pretending). Personally, I won't support a franchise that has given up on trying to win a championship and is content to tread water in the 1st-2nd round range. And frankly, you don't need an executive like Ainge for that. If that was good enough they could have simply kept the Mitchell-Gobert team and I'm glad they didn't. It's ok to try and fail but if they don't even try then they can GTFO and move.

I largely think they broke up the Mitchell-Gobert team because Ainge deluded himself and Smith into thinking that Ainge could build a title contender without going deep into the tax.

I just don't see Smith ever going past the first apron, he's way too cheap to spend.

So It's pretty clear Flagg is the prize this draft, but he doesn't seem to be one of those players who would naturally slot into a position of need for the Jazz. He doesn't seem to be right now an efficient go-to scorer and more of a defensive superstar. I say all of that to ask th question, how would he fit on the current team and how would that change our team building strategy going forward in your mind?

Replacing Hendricks with Flagg would be a huge upgrade, especially considering the recent injury. Both Flagg an Markkanen can play either forward position.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

This ESPN article below has me excited to potentially draft Flagg. And if we are lucky enough to draft Flagg, I would guess Flagg being from a small town might help the chances of Utah hanging on to him. Additionally, Flagg and his family are obsessed with the 85-86 champion Celtics' team, watching all their games over and over again. Larry Bird is the big attraction there, but Ainge started and averaged 30 mpg on that 85-86 Celtics' team, so if we got him, Ainge and Flagg would have something in common to talk about from the get go. Make film study of the 85-86 Celtics great again!

It's a good thing we are in the running for the top three picks, where it is harder to miss out on a good player altogether, because at the moment it looks like we haven't done very well picking #9 and above the last couple of drafts. Out of Hendricks, KG, Sensabaugh, Williams, Collier and Filipowski, #32 pick Filipowski might be our best chance for a solid rotation player. Young KG might keep developing and get it going, but his low .501 TS% and defense early this season is worrisome.

Meanwhile, a couple of guys we let go for not much, Ochai and NAW, have become a good starter in the case of Ochai, 13 ppg on .634 TS%, and a solid sub/sometimes starter in the case of Naw, 8.8 ppg on .675 TS%.

Hopefully Demin and Harper can keep impressing to give the Jazz some good backup options outside of Flagg.

When Keyonte plays off the ball and just looks to score, his efficiency improves, especially on spotups rather than shooting off the dribble. He was efficient in the 1st half today against the Knicks. Overall, I think he'll be a decent rotational piece in a role similar to a Tyler Herro.

I liked what I saw with Cody today. He was aggressive defensively, going for rebounds and pushing the ball. At some point, he'll figure out how to score, I think. He's not being asked to take shots right now.

Yes, I am probably going too negative on our developing players, but besides low TS%, KG has the worst defensive rating for starting guards at NBA.com. His poor defense helps with the tank though. :D

I saw SoCalJazzFan's post showing that Collier has been a good Point of Attack Defender. And Hendricks was doing pretty well on defense before he got hurt.

I probably shouldn't post this article to avoid jinx potential, but....

Do the Utah Jazz have a shot at two lottery selections?
https://www.si.com/nba/jazz/news/t-wolves-slow-start-good-news-for-jazz-draft-outlook

This is not talked about in the article, but besides the Wolves' struggle to turn the Towns-Randle trade in to wins, I wonder if they went to the well with one too many contracts for Mike Conley. Given how great Conley shot the ball last season, 62.7 TS%, I am inclined to think Conley is just suffering an early season shooting slump, 49.3 TS%, and that he will pull out of the slump soon, but at age 37, there is also the possibility that father time claimed him.

The last two games from Harper was probably the most impressive two game stretch I've ever seen from a Freshman.

His acceleration and deceleration and size and handle.... Holy **** ****.

I tend to think that will not happen, but I do think it may end up around where we picked Keyonte George. I think Minnesota could definetely be a 7-10 team in the West, and since it doesn't matter for where they end up in the playoffs that would be great.

Theiro is clearly not ranked high enough and will end up in the top 15, but really don't know how to feel about him.

12/21 from the free throw line as a hustle wing is... not something you see everyday.

I think Kasparas is likely a late-lottery guy. He has a nice combination of size, athleticism, playmaking and defensive potential, with the ability to contribute both on and off the ball.

Drake Powell had his first good game for UNC this week. He looks like a legit 6'6" (if not a touch bigger) with a long wingspan and solid athleticism. He's a nice, versatile defender with some toughness. He was also making his shots. If you liked Stephon Castle last year, you should pay attention to Powell, imo.

If the Jazz get a later lottery pick from the Twolves, I'd have these guys on a shortlist.

Adou Theiro looks pretty similar to OG Anunoby at Indiana. He's interesting in the later 1st round.

MINNY is falling apart. They are blaming each other.......it's bad.....they are 1 major injury away from being a low draft pick. At 9-10 now, that pick would be #12.

Look on NBA Draft.net

Currently we have #3 and #12. #30.
