Maybe he can use the savings to build a strip club that shows nipple

So then a buyout still wouldn't qualify as a salary dump.

I think it does. It is savings that can go into the team or not come out of the Smith's pockets. We may not see the impact on the roster this year, but the same is true of saving a few million in a trade with a player making less.

Ryan Smith saves money perhaps but in terms of affecting cap space for roster moves it doesn't provide extra flexibility, is what I mean. It won't make a certain trade possible that before wasn't possible.

They are not going to buy Nurkic out. And he's paid more than Sexton. They are getting him because apparently they have liked him for a while. Please don't kill me, I know how preposterous this sounds... I'm just the messenger. :banghead:

I'm sure they say that about any player they get. What are they supposed to say, "we traded for him because he's injury prone and not as good as Sexton because we're trying to lose games"?

If they wanted that they could have just bought out Sexton and saved themselves the second. They definitely preferred having Nurkic for a second over having noone and keeping that second.

But then they wouldn't have made Charlotte, a main Jazz competitor for the #1 pick in 2026, better.

We can also assume that Nurkic can provide mentorship to Kessler.

I would have preferred having Sexton to mentor Ace, due to his extremely high work ethic.

They basically traded a guard (since the team has a million of them now) for a C (which the team only has 1 of at present). Both make similar money on an expiring deal. Also, brace yourself. Word is that the Jazz have been looking for a deal for Jordan Clarkson and there has been almost NO interest out there despite his manageable expiring contract.

I think we all expected that. Just buy him out and let him sign with a contender. Loved him when we were a playoff team, he deserves to play meaningful games.

Ainge signing all these mid players hoping they'd be salary ballast in trades and not a single one worked. I wouldn't even say it was worth the try because they got in the way of tanking and young player development. Having to buy someone out or make a laughable trade like Sexton for Nurkic is just about the most embarrassing mismanagement of resources possible.

I am surprised we have to throw in a pick in the Sexton-Nurkic trade. The tank tanked both Sexton and Clarkson's value. Probably Lauri's too.
