I disagree. I wore a headband throughout high school because it kept the sweat off my face. A couple times on the road I forgot it and couldn't stand the sweat all over my face. It was a very important part of my uniform.
In 60+ games it was never once a hindrance.

wearing a handband makes you standout?
please, why is it when an nba player wears one they are judged, but a tennis player does, and its never brought up..
i think we all know why
it serves an actual purpose. and they don't even look good, so its not some fashion statement. it still looks like something out of the 80s, but ppl wear it to get sweat out of their eyes/face.
guys like skiles who ban it are control freaks, who usually don't excell in the nba, since you know, their coaching grown adults and not 18 years olds in college who you can bully. its a silly rule for any coach to have. stop caring about things that don't matter and get to coaching!

The strange thing about this to me is that headbands are functional. I wear one when I play, and it's not for fashion. In fact I don't really like the way it looks. But I wear it to help keep sweat out of my eyes.
I could see a no-armbands rule. Those aren't really functional. But why does Sloan want me to be blinded when I play???

those arm bands do serve a function...hyper extended elbows...I've heard of guys having to drain their elbows after games.
so they do serve a purpose. i think AI just wears it out of habit, but Melo has padding underneath it after an injury.
the tights guys like Wade wear are kinda funny looking, but just looking at Wade, it probably hurts for him to get up in the morning with all those injuries and losing.
coaches should really be worrying about winning and not the fashion choices of this guys. whats next? banning tattoos.

Then tell me if you get any sweat in your eyes.
Hint #2: If you think that headbands look worse than a bunch of vasoline smeared all over your face you need help.
I don't understand what the big deal is about players wearing a headband. If a guy wants to wear a headband he should be able to. Who cares you think he looks stupid. Kyle Korver looks like an idiot with those long socks but none of you complain about that.

Two things.
The footballer in the picture is, or rather was, a goalkeeper. If you think that Vaseline on your gloves is a good thing when you're a goalie, you clearly haven't played the sport.
Second, those of you who think headbands look better than vaseline, thank you for proving my point that it's about fashion, not effectiveness.

Or just maybe players would rather not have their faces covered in goo...
Ah, of course. I should've known that any mention of Vaseline would lead to vaguely homophobic references.
And I don't care whether or not players like it. I simply pointed out that there was a cheap, reliable, and very effective alternative to headbands.

Actually I meant nothing sexual in my comment at all. Maybe that says more about your thought processes than anything.
And I understand that the average NBA player would have a hard time coming up with the cash to purchase a headband, but I bet most of them would be willing to spot the extra buck fifty to upgrade from vasoline.

I'm at the low end of the sweat-scale, so I've never faced that problem. More power to you, sir.

I cant believe the big deal the Trib made about him wearing a headband. Luhm wrote a blog about how disrespectful it was to Sloan and Siler was asking Sloan at shoot around. I found it a little funny that people make a big deal about his headband, but make no mention of Korvers socks. Because Korvers socks are and have been a violation of the Sloan dress code, they just made a Ben Wallace type exception for him.
