Who is our backup 5 in that case? Rudy Gay at the 5 certainly hasn't worked out.

I'd rather see if Doke can figure out how to play in the NBA than watch another second of Whiteside.

Whiteside can be frustrating, but you have much more faith in Dok than I do.

I have no faith in Doke

I could still see a contender maybe taking him. Perhaps we could get a swap of centers with a team we potentially make a trade with like Rudy Gay and Whiteside to Miami for Dedmon and something. Dwight to Utah? Can we convince the magic to trade RoLo into our TPE for a small asset? Hell WCS is just sitting out there. Give him a try. Sign a g league guy. Convince Mike to really press on Marc Gasol coming over. There's options.

I think we can probably scrap any trade ideas involving Ingles due to his injury, unless his contract is used for cap relief for the receiving team.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Clippers are making Marcus Morris available. Danny Ainge signed Morris in Boston several years back. Could be a backup plan.

It's a better use of a first than us just dumping them with bad contracts. But I'm not overly jazzed by it. I still do think RoCo would fit us well though

I think this is the last year of his contract... If so, you are paying a lot for a 2 month rental.

Maybe. I think the Jazz would be more interested in sending out a bigger package and targeting someone like Grant or Barnes. If they can't bring back that tier of player, they'd be interested in guys like Kuzma, Covington, Marcus Morris, Josh Richardson, etc.

The trade would be made with the thought in mind of resigning him.

Just looking for perspective from Jazz fans, with rumors of Mitchell's desire to be in a bigger spotlight with NYC being mentioned, what are your thought of his imminent (I know he's U/C for a while) departure. Is there any basis on this or just rumor mill splatter, perhaps from the Knicks or even Mitchell's people ??

I don't think Mitchell is going anywhere any time soon.

IMO I think the rumors are based on some reality. I wouldn't care if the Jazz traded Mitchell this trade deadline or this summer. I don't think this team is going anywhere. The problem I see is what do the Knicks have the Jazz really want? Atlanta is a bigger market than SLC. Move him for J Collins and D Hunter. If ATL doesn't give you enough for Mitchell, maybe you can use Mitchell and even Conley to help facilitate Simmons from Philly to ATL. You are not going to get equal value moving Mitchell but you won't get any value when he pulls a Hayward. The Jazz get 2 starting caliber players in that trade. If you move Mitchell, you need to move Bogey and Conley as well and get younger. In the long run it doesn't matter. The Lakers will win 5 more titles (even after LeBron) before the Jazz win their first.

It wouldn't surprise me if Mitchell one day ends up in NY, LA or possibly Miami. However, I think that's years from now and that he'll play out his current contract.

We’ve got to be in a place we’re moving Conley/Bogey starts to make some sense soon. Their values just going to decrease going forward and the ceiling for this team is pretty well set.

Tinkering around a little on the trade machine:

Utah IN: Smart, Seth Curry, Justin Holiday

Indiana In: Clarkson

Philadelphia in: Jaylen Brown, Bogie

Boston in: Simmons, Torrey Craig

Utah gets defenders in Smart and Holiday and replaces the flame thrower with a good shooter in Curry

Indiana gets someone who can really create their own shot and pull defenders in. Helps take the scoring load off of Sabonis

Philadelphia: gets 2 good starters in return for a Simmons trade

Boston: Moves on from Brown but brings in Simmons who can defend and a great finisher around the rim. Also gets a decent defender in Craig.

I personally think Philly would have to give Boston a pick as well

Philly could swap Thybulle for Curry if they would prefer but they would have to trade Bassey as well to Boston to make salaries work.

Boston is paying so much value for Simmons when it's arguable that Brown alone is worth Simmons

I could see the Jazz moving Bogey for someone younger and more of a 2-way player. I think the Jazz learned their lesson watching Ingles' trade value fall off a cliff this season. Not so sure about Conley though.
