This is horrible one for the Jazz. Have no idea what Ainge and Zanik are thinking... :banghead:

We just traded our best vet asset for nothing! This means even less can be gotten for our other vets. It also means we improve our C rotation... something we really shouldn't be trying to do right now. Just hate it on multiple levels... even if you want to see Bojan play on a contender, this trade sucks... we couldn't even give him that...

Jazz saved some money and got worse. So that checks two boxes.

We have dominated the off season with the moves we have made until now. If there was any doubt that we are in full tank mode we are in it now. We just gave away our best player left on the roster for literally nothing.

I wonder how that Denver-Utah season opener will go.

I hear the Jazz also got about $1.4M in cash.

Detroit threw in some cash to cover Saben Lee's salary. Lee might get cut.

Yeah, this was a disaster of a trade. I have heard every take on why we supposedly pulled the trigger but all sounds like BS. Ainge has done well and I am the first to give him credit, but I will also call him out for doing something stupid. This is so dumb even Sacramento wouldn't have pulled that trigger. Ainge F'd up on this one and their is really nothing that can change that point. Obviously I don't know the offers being given, but if you don't like the current offers.... then wait for it. This is on our jersey level dumb.

Bogey's market just wasn't what we thought it was. Gobert and Mitchell both had multiple years left on their deals, otherwise they would have been disappointing returns as well.

Ultimately, the biggest gain here is improving a team that would likely be competing for ping pong balls. A late 1st from the Suns that had a good chance of turning into 2 2nds wouldn't have been a great return anyway.

Let's be honest here, as well. Utah could have kept Bojan and probably got a better return at the trade deadline. If they had done that though, there'd be a bunch of posters here complaining about ruining our tank. The reality is that most deals in the NBA are close enough to even that they are somewhat disappointing, especially after you get used to trading all-stars with multi-year deals.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Tony Jones confirmed on his twitter feed (September 23 ) that the Suns wanted Vanderbilt in a trade, which caused talks to break down, and I saw similar reports about the Lakers. So Ainge made the trade with Detroit and kind of jammed both teams.

In the end, I'm not sure what kind of return we were expecting. Bojan is good, but he's also a 33 year old player with an expiring contract. I suppose the best scenario would have been to package him with other players to the Lakers for both their picks, but on his own, I think realistically he might have fetched a protected FRP, and we do have plenty of those for it to not make a difference.

A deal with the Lakers is still possible, though, centered around Beasley, Clarkson, Conley (less of a fit right now), but the Lakers also want Vanderbilt.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Love Bogey, it's a shame he couldn't fetch more than this. On the bright side, him being a Piston helps us be a lower seed with more potential to get a higher pick in the draft as he isn't capable of not going all out and trying to win.

Yes it has given us a little more separation from the Pistons in the NBA Futures outlook. BetOnline currently has the Pistons at 29 wins and the Jazz at 24.5 wins. VegasInsider had the Pistons at 28.5 wins and Jazz at 26.5 wins a week ago.

BetOnline also has the Spurs at 22.5 wins and the Thunder, Pacers and Rockets are at 23.5 wins.

Sounds like Ainge could've gotten Phoenix's FRP if he was willing to throw in Vanderbilt. Apparently he values 23 yo JV more than a very late PHX pick. What are the chances that a pick at 28ish was going to be better than JV?

I'm going to assume he could've gotten a late FRP from Miami too if he were willing to take on Duncan Robinson. He is still guaranteed over $64 mil on his contract so can understand Ainge passing if that was indeed the offer.

Bogey trade looking worse with increasing Crowder tweets and him not showing up to camp. I bet they would have given a first pick for Bogey now.

Rumor was they wanted Vanderbilt as well as Bogey. Jazz didn't want to play

The thing is, it wasn't even a particularly great game by Bogey standards....... He's just quietly really good......

Bogey was (is) one of my favorite players. He is the silent assassin. Not flashy, just solid. When he came to Utah, he was purely a three point shooter. He developed into a solid post up player, not overwhelming, but he became a threat to do more than jsut spot up three's. That development came with a big learning curve of how to dribble the ball and not turn it over in the paint, but he kept working and improving and it became where it wasn't an "oh no, not another back down turn it over play!" but, a "this is how you take advantage of switching defenses that put smaller guys on me, watch this..." All while still being a terrific deep threat. I hope the fans enjoy having him on their team as much as many of us here did.

Weird trade, but Olynyk has actually been a good fit with this group so far, so who knows, maybe Ainge made a good move after all.
