I don't know why Sloan would force more minutes on Stockton and Malone. More minutes, and the same stamina and energy for a night = less quality games.
Unless you are Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant type of player. I saw the 81 point game, and Kobe on the second half didn't stop playing until the last 15 seconds of the game.

Stockton wasn't injured in the finals. Try again.
Stockton had knee problems in 1996-97 that led to his having surgery. After surgery his minutes were limited accordingly for a man of 35 years old rehabbing. It takes time to get back 100%, and Stocktons minutes were reduced all year after missing games, including the playoffs. The thread wanted a reason for his less minutes and you got it.
Of course if you are of the opinion that everything Sloan does is wrong, the truth is easily dismissed.

Yeah, I know. I remember. I also remember Stock coming back to form quickly after that injury... also, wasn't it just a scope? It's not like he had reconstructive surgery or anything. I've had my knee scoped to remove cartilage around that same time. I know how long it takes to get back. Nowadays it's even shorter. You will see guys back within weeks.
I don't think anyone at that time seriously believed that Stock's drop-off in minutes was due to injury as the season progressed. It seemed more of a precaution because of Stock's value to the team. When it continued even further into the playoffs and beyond, it seemed that it was to prolong his career more than anything else. This pretty much continued for the rest of his career.
Thanks for trying again, but in the best interest of the forum, I think you should just give up. Your BS isn't going to fly.. but it was a good try.

So the type of injury is meaningless? A hangnail = broken leg?
refuse to except a rational informed answer Realgm
You are not being rational in the least. Your whole argument rests on the claim that any injury can take a year to heal. Nonsense.
A orthopedic scope is simply a 1/4" incision to allow a camera to go inside and check it out. Another incision is done from another area to allow a tool to go inside and remove loose cartilage. You can be to 100% in weeks. It's been done time and time again. I've experienced it first hand. Have you? Go read up on it.
Please give up. You are just digging yourself in a deeper hole. Being smug and indignant about it makes you look like a total fool.

being smug?
Did you read what the team physician said at the time?

Quote:
The 35-year-old star guard, the NBA career leader in assists and steals, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to remove loose cartilage. Dr. Lyle Mason, the team's orthopedic surgeon, said this particular injury does not heal easily.

Seriously, call off the name-calling. I know your posts and you're a smart commenter...no need to sink to this kind of crap.
You are like the ref that calls the foul on the retaliation.
This poser deserves worse than I gave.
If you want to hold this place to a standard, then maybe you should focus more on integrity than civility. Without integrity... what's the point?

Bad behaviour does not excuse bad behaviour. Everyone is responsible for what they post. That said, I agree that EVERYONE should be more civil.

No reason we can't have both. Nothing in this thread, by any party, warranted being called a "tard". It's quite possible to have disagreements, even fervent ones, without resorting to that nonsense.

This poser brought neither, and he deserves worse than a comment about a indirect association with retards.
Actually, that is my edited version that I did just for you mods. If this were in real life, even Jerry Sloan would be taken aback by my voracious and vicious vulgarity towards the poser.

<See's Sloan's name mentioned in post w/out reading entirely>

There are tons of Sloan-haters out there who aren't going to be convinced of anything other than he sucks. Those who don't believe he sucks aren't going to cave because of "hard facts" or whatever you call some of this stuff people are using as proof.
I'll just call scoreboard. As of the beginning of the year:
- fourth most wins all-time (1035-689)

- 16 consecutive winning seasons and eleven 50-win seasons
