^^ It's also an anti-tanking move.

I only see this as useful if they "play-in" teams from both conferences, so say, 9 teams from the West could get in the playoffs and only 7 from the Least. Otherwise I don't see the usefulness of allowing a team who finished 10th (and likely a losing record) to "play-in" by winning a game or 2 at the end of the season, after having a crap season for the 82 games before that.
For example ... the 24-33 Hornets could be a playoff team by winning games vs Pistons (28-29) and 76ers (30-25) at the end of the season, while the West would still have 2 teams with winning records unable to make the playoffs, since they have 10 teams above .500. Makes no sense.
Yeah, I don't like the idea either. It completely disregards the teams' records and only considers their seeding. The 7th or 8th seed could conceivably lose their playoff berth completely even if they have a much better record than the 9th and 10th seed. In one conference, we could have an 8th seed with a 42-40 record losing their spot to the 10th seed with a record of 32-50.
Just toss aside the conferences and make it a 1-16 playoff already.

Alfonso is playing very well in NY. He looks very slim and a lot faster than he ever was in a Jazz uni. Always nice to see a player put in the work and succeed.

Not pretty. 28 minutes with 6 points on 2-6 shooting, 2 rbs and a -8. At least Korver in similar point misery and plus/minus took the time to grab 5 rbs. That is the thing with Hood - he is a mono-dimensional streak shooter and if his shot isn't going down he does very little of of the "small things that don't show up in boxscores" while hoovering minutes like hustle plays, good defense etc. Just wait until he goes 1-12 in 30 minutes and has 2 rebounds. RH is a valuable Crawford-Like Bench Heater. That is it. "It" could earn him a long NBA career though no team is going to be hucking starter money on a contender team at him anytime soon. He had a fit with the Jazz and may again, but not until the NBA decides his real salary worth with performance on his next contract.

Have to give it to Anthony Davis, the guy has stepped up even more after Boogie got injured and is playing like a superstar, carrying his team.

And Davis is leading his teams to wins without getting efficient help from Mirotic. Mirotic is averaging 14 ppg, but on .384 from the field and .269 from three. Crowder has been an equally inefficient scorer for the Jazz --- 13 ppg on .375 from the field and .281 from three.

True. I guess some early struggles to guys on their new teams is something to be expected, but neither have been that impressive. I think Mirotic perhaps is a more important addition to his team solely based on the lack of depth they had at his position, to the point they also had tom bring in Okafor.

For those of us who have wanted a "minor league" or "farm system" for a while, the recent NCAA/FBI "revelations" and comments like those being made by LBJ just might get us there eventually. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/lebron-james-carmelo-anthony-call-ncaa-corrupt-fbi-probe-article-1.3844799

I don't think there's any way he sustains anything close to these numbers, but it's worth mentioning that former Jazz disappointment, Trey Burke, has been killing it in NY the last 3 games.
Feb 26 vs GS: 25 min, .533 FG, 1 3pt, 18 pts, 1 reb, 5 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk, 1 TO
Feb 24 vs Bos: 26 min, .526 FG, 2 3pt, 26 pts , 0 reb, 8 ast, 1stl, 0 blk, 1 TO
Feb 22 vs Orl: 30 min, .545 FG, 2 3pt, 26 pts, 4 reb, 6 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk, 1 TO

His defense is still subpar, but it appears that he has eaten some humble pie and worked really hard to improve his game. He probably can't keep up the offensive numbers he's had so far in the limited games he's played this year, but he has improved. Good on him.

I have to say I like all the buyout signings so far (that I know of). OKC could really use Brewer if he can still play, the Pacers will get some vet help and energy from Booker who will help shore up their rotation of bigs, and the Bucks could use Muhammad's scoring and physicality.

Crunch 99 wrote:2/20/18: There are six teams with 18 wins with approximately 23 games to go. I think the race to the bottom the rest of the way is going to be particularly brutal this season.
I am checking back a couple of weeks later on the 18 win tankers' club, that was Kings, Suns, Mavs, Grizzlies, Hawks and Magic, and they have collectively won a total of four games against non tanking teams since 2/20. The Grizzlies still have 18 wins, while the Kings, Suns, Mavs, Hawks and Magic all have 19 wins.
The Kings, who we are playing tonight, won a game last Thursday in overtime against the Nets, who are tanking just because they are bad, not because they are going to get a draft pick. The Kings lost their other four games since 2/20. But the Jazz can't afford to take any of these games against the tankers lightly. These are still teams with competitive NBA players capable of having good games.

Looks like Lyles may be getting squeezed out of the Nuggets rotation with the return of Millsap. He got a DNP against Cleveland yesterday and has played a total of 20 minutes in the three games since Millsap returned.

They have a crazy minutes crunch at the 4 spot. Lyles and Hernangomez are both really talented young players and neither can find the court when they are healthy. That isn't even counting Faried who is a solid pf as well.

Re: Around the NBA, Season 2017-2018
Congratulations to Larry Nance Junior in his first start for the Cavs: 22 points on 9-15 shooting, 15 reb, 4 orb, 2 stl and 1 ast in a 112-90 win over the Pistons. The Cavs outrebounded the Pistons 53-40, 11-8 orb, and Nance outrebounded league leader Drummond 15-9 --- no small feat.

Cavs' newcomers Clarkson and Nance have been good performers for the Cavs, but newcomers Hill and Hood have played poorly on average. Hill and Hood are both better three point shooters than what they've been so far.

Don't we play the Pels next? I'm wondering if Davis is even gonna play? Let down game with him out? Looked like a nasty sprain?

I though Jaylen Brown was paralyzed for a minute. Never been more relieved to see a player get up back on his feet. Scary stuff.
