Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
What's the news on Kostja Mushidi? He declared, right?
Where would y'all project him to go in this draft? Seems like someone the Jazz would be interested in drafting and keeping overseas for a bit. DraftExpress has him projected to go 35th in next years draft.

I'm not a big fan of Mushidi. To me he looks a bit like Briscoe from Kentucky. Stocky, well built, but seems to lack wiggle and creativity in halfcourt. He will need a TON of work to be a PG(which he used to be listed as, but recently people seem to be counting him as a SG), I think his PG-skill level is not great. He might become a good 3 and D type of 2, but then again - even his shot is not consistent. I'm not opposed to taking a shot at him in the second, but I wouldn't draft him in the first.

People said the same things about Draymond Green.
Green shot 36% from 3 at MSU. Jordan Bell hasn't shown he can shoot from distance worth a lick. I doubt people were saying the same things about Draymond Green. I really liked Green coming out of college, but the argument that he was a tweener without a defined position was dead on at the time. Now, everyone is reaching for the next Draymond Green. Really the question will be if Jordan Bell can show some potential shooting from distance. If not, he'll be extremely limited.

Diallo, if available, the Jazz take for certain at #25, right? If he played in college he would have been a top 10 pick probably.

I'm not saying Bell is Draymond, I'm just saying that he received similar criticism. Don't forget, Draymond was taken in the second round, it wasn't like he was considered to be a top tier prospect.
Bell doesn't need to a 3 point shot to be effective. He's a defensive terror that can protect the rim and guard guys on the perimeter. If he did nothing else but that, he'd be worth a pick.

I hope so. He's my top guy for us at 24 if he's there. Stash him in the D-league and let him develop. He's got Wiggins type athleticism and his height and wingspan are awesome for an NBA 2 guard. I wouldn't be able to understand passing on him if he's there at 24.

Or he could have gone undrafted. Playing college basketball hurts more draft stocks than it helps.

Tiers are moronic and pointless. Bet you would have had Gobert in a "Tier 5".

By that logic any preemptive discussion, speculation, or predictions are moronic and pointless.

Wow, you got some pretty bold ones on there.
Bam at 12? Fox at 9th? Jeanne at 19th? Thornwell at 22? Kuzma ahead of Leaf? Frank Mason III at 34? Bold.

Keep in mind that I haven't watched most of the second rounders extensively so players like Mason jump up simply by the fact that I've watched him and I haven't watched others. Also rankings within tiers might be very fluid and especially at the end of the list I'd be looking at those more as a group of players of similar value than as a discrete and well-separated entities.
Also, Don't take Fox being at 9 as a slight. In other drafts he's probably a top 5 prospect. I just like the top of the draft more than other years.

Well, I guess we should close the forum and stop talking since pretty much anything we talk about is projection for the future and we might be wrong about it. Also how exactly do you know Gobert would have been in Tier 5? I don't think I did an official board back then but I remember I liked Gobert more than most. And he also fits a size/athleticism profile that I usually like and project higher than most. For example, see Jeanne in this draft.

I'm not really on the Leaf train either. I'm not convinced that he is a good shooter, or at least as good as advertised. Most of his offense came within 15 feet, and I don't see him being successful in those areas as a pro.

I just don't know what to make of him. He's a brute for a guard, which I like, but his shot mechanics are a little iffy to me and I don't know... I've just never come away from watching him seeing how he could fit into an NBA team. Sorta reminds me of Terry Rozier, but not as good. That's about the best description of how I feel about him that I can come up with on the spot (and it's not a good one). I've had him on and off my board a few times now since the combine (where he looked great). Just can't commit myself to putting him on there somewhere.
But I don't blame people for liking him. I can see why.

Not much, tbh.
He's a solid shooter with really good looking mechanics. He has good size for an NBA wing and appears to have good athleticism. Seems to have decent handles, but it's hard to say with the limited film we have on him. I don't have a clue about his defense. There's just not much film of him out there, but the limited amount we have shows that there's a lot to like. Especially his combo of size, shooting and athleticism.
