Brooklyn Nets

A market is forming for Nets All-Star and restricted free agent D’Angelo Russell: Utah, Orlando, Minnesota and Indiana are among the teams expected to show an interest aside from Brooklyn, sources said.

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets and Kemba Walker both have each other as top priorities entering July 1, league sources said. Walker confirmed to Jared Weiss of The Athletic that the Hornets remain his “first priority” during his tour of Tokyo as an NBA ambassador there during the NBA Finals. Walker made the All-NBA third team this year after another spectacular season, allowing him to sign a five-year, $221 million super maximum contract. There is doubt around the NBA that the Hornets will reach that high amount, but owner Michael Jordan’s loyalty has always been with Walker.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder have had multiple conversations with various teams about using their No. 21 pick in a trade to reduce team salary and relieve financial pressure, league sources said.

Shroeder + 21 for capspace?

Grant +21 for capspace?

So OKC might have a first rounder for salary relief. I'm interested, both in getting the pick, or in adding them into a 3 team deal for Conley.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Is there a difference between putting an offer to an UFA and a RFA with respect to having the cap space in order to sign them? I ask as Tony Jones has repeatedly indicated that for the Jazz to chase a RFA that would put them over the cap, they would need to renounce Favors first. Either he is mistaken, or there are different rules in play.
(Edit: I guess what it comes down to is whether the team must have the cap space to sign the RFA to an offer sheet).

Yeah... you can offer whatever you want to both RFAs and UFAs during negotiation without renouncing anyone... BUT for both of them you need to have the capspace available the moment you sign either the offer sheet(for RFAs) or for the contract (for the UFAs)...

You can talk to the free agents and tell them, if you say yes, we will make the capspace(with whatever avenues you have - in our case by renouncing Favors and other unguaranteed contracts)...

I just realized Bogdanovic is 30. I thought he's like 28... This changes my opinion about signing him a bit. I'm not sure I'd go much over 10-12M...

Also... I wonder if a SnT isn't possible for D'Angelo if BKN are on the fence about matching long term contract... maybe us guaranteeing Favors(doing Favors a favor) and trading him to BKN will be good enough to push the equation enough for BKN to let him go to us. It's a win-win-win situation... Favors gets his money, Utah gets the PG/SG of the future, BKN gets a great starting center for their KD/Kyrie team.

Yeah I think we talked about this before. Favors would be perfect for BKN. I know they like Allen, but Favors is so much better right now and I don't think KD/Kyrie will want to wait on kids to develop. Not only is Favors a perfect fit for their system, his complete anti-drama personality will be necessary when the drama lords come.

If they don't want Favors, I also think Crowder is a useful player for them. It's not an equal trade by any means, but it's a nice consolation if they were thinking of moving on from Russell. I also think there's a chance Russell wants out. He didn't seem so thrilled about the idea of playing with Kyrie.

Perhaps we even send them both.

D'Angelo is hanging out with Bojan Bogdanovic this summer:

You can look at it in two different ways - Bojan is recruiting him to Indiana or... Russell and Donovan being friends might help us get Bojan too...

So in essence... this seems to be possible:
1. Renounce Rubio and stretch Korver...
2. Give Bojan as much as we can
3. SnT Russell with BKN

Team:
PG: Russell, Exum, Neto
SG: Mitchell, Royce, Allen
SF: Bojan, (Ingles, Crowder), ??? MLE/1st round pick
PF: Ingles, Crowder, Niang
C: Gobert, Tony Bradley, ??? MLE/1st round pick

While the Knicks have the cap space to sign both KD and Kyrie, the Nets have less than $60M is salary cap space, so they would only be able to pull off Kyrie. Still would make a Favors S&T for D'Angelo a possibility if DLO wants out. They could probably get better offers, though.

It doesn't matter if DLo wants to come only to us. He will tell them I'm signing only their offer sheet - you either get what they offer you or nothing.

I guess we will only lose Favors if we are spending significant money on new talent, but it seems like we could lose both Favors and Udoh. With Favors healthy last season, Udoh only saw 6 mpg. He wants to play more. Ironically, he could be in position to do just that if Favors leaves, but Udoh needs to make his decision on overseas offers before the Jazz make their decision on Favors.

In watching Bogut play pretty well in these Finals, I was thinking that old man Bogut, with his Utah connection and fellow Australians here, might be a possibility for backup Center, but it sounds like he has an unsual situation where he is still under contract by the Sydney Kings. The Kings expect Bogut to play a full season for them, but then give Bogut permission to join a NBA team down the stretch.

I think we could always go back to Europe for a backup C or find one on the minimum. I wish pick was still around.

I'm interested in giving Randolph, Vesely, and Tavares.

If OKC is looking to clear space and we can get Jerami Grant without giving up much, we should be all over that. He killed us in the playoffs a few years ago with his outside shooting. OKC would win had they played him more instead of Melo...IMO. His spacing at the 4 would be great for the team.

Thabo for Grant works and would work for OKC to clear space if they can waive Thabo. I’d give up this years pick for that trade.

Dwight Powell opting out of 10.2. He can't shoot, but he's great in the pick and roll.

I really like Powell. He is also not that bad of a shooter and I think he will continue to get better in that department. I would be surprised if within a few years he isn't in that 35% range from 3 which is solid for a pf/C.

That's excellent news for us.

Irving probably going there. Durant the other one? He just got ruled out for game 4.

If I had to guess - yes... this is hell of a risk to take if you are not sure you can actually use that capspace.
