Re: Around the NBA, Season 2019-2020
The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to sign Carmelo Anthony to a non-guaranteed deal.
Anthony last played in the NBA a year ago with the Houston Rockets.
Anthony has continually maintained interest in returning to the NBA. The Blazers pursued a trade for Anthony in 2017.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, Damian Lillard was notified of the potential of signing Anthony and was supportive of the idea.

Nice signing by Portland. Carmelo should help solve their defensive issues.

This is what happens when you're on the treadmill. We can relate.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

It should be interesting to see how this Melo thing shakes out. Losing Zach Collins at the start of the season was a killer for them because he was their best pf and overall defensive player. Melo obviously brings a little fire power offensively but defensively nothing.

Pau Gasol was just waived by the Blazers. He probably doesn't have much left in the tank but he could fit as another backup big for spot minutes, and we won't have to rely on Bradley or use Green as a C.

Except the story on Real GM here says that he has been unable to successfully rehab his injured foot after surgery and he is still unable to play. The Blazers were only set to pay Gasol 2.6 million this season if they hadn't waived him; so it looks to me like the Blazers gave up hope that Gasol would successfully rehab his foot and be able to meaningfully contribute this season.

D Favs has only played 8 minutes since his big game. Favors clearly has the talent to be a good starting center in this league, but it is starting to look like Favors' body might not allow him to flourish in his new starting role like many of us hoped he would. He's missed a third of the games and played very low minutes, eight, in two of the games. Some of the recent Pelican games that were played without leading scorer Ingram would have been a perfect opportunity for Favors to establish himself as an important player in the Pelicans' offense, but he has been unable to go. Back spasms was the reason given for Favors missing last night's game.

Man, way to kick us while we're down.....
Glad he's playing well. Haven't watched a lot of Sun's games, but he looks good for them and definitely makes them better from what I've seen.

Yes, Rubio leads all point guards for APG. Forwards LBJ and Doncic are ahead of him though. At this juncture, I like the Suns' mixture of contracts, vets and young players more than I like the Jazz' mix. Veterans Rubio and Baynes have brought much needed toughness, grit and leadership to the Phoenix youth core of Booker, Ayton and Oubre.
The Suns have been through a rough patch the last ten games with Baynes missing eight games and Rubio missing four games, and of course the suspended Ayton missing all of the games, but I think the Suns can compete with the Jazz and Wolves for the six, seven and eight spots if they have their key guys back most of the rest of the way. Baynes will be back tomorrow or Monday, and Ayton will be back December 17th.
Hopefully I am wrong to be writing the Jazz off as a competitor for a top five seed in the west, but the recent string of blowout losses have severely shaken my confidence.

Can it be that some coaches can utilize good qualities of players without whining about "bad fit with". May be for some coaches it is possible to assemble "puzzle" not only from uniform square blocks...

Re: Around the NBA, Season 2019-2020
Rodney Hood was having a good season with his shooting percentages, 50.6% overall and 49% on threes, but unfortunately, he tore his left achilles tendon tonight. Now the Blazers have 3/5 of their original projected starting lineup out with serious injuries: Nurkic, Collins and Hood.

Re: Around the NBA, Season 2019-2020
Ricky Rubio on the NBA leader board: Rubio leads all NBA starters in AST/TO, ASSIST RATIO and ASSIST PERCENTAGE. He leads all point guards in assist per game and is number three overall behind Lebron and Doncic. Rubio's AST/TO ratio at 4.46 is about double that of his two seasons with the Utah Jazz at 1.98 and 2.31.
