This regular season was a failure.

Post#1 » by carrottop12 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 5:55 am

Looking back at this season and I just don't see how we can call it anything other than a failure. Based on the last 3 season's, the Jazz would have had to at least get home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs to consider this season a success, and you'd want us to be in a good position to win the second round. And you'd like to see the Jazz having answered some questions for future.

We ended up a 5 seed, if we win the first round we are looking at facing the same team that has beat us two consecutive seasons in the playoffs, we didn't win a division title, we basically swapped last years first rounder for a pick next year, and our future has just as many questions as it did at this point last year.

The only real difference is the owner saved $10,000,000, and we picked up Wesley Matthews.

I know the team played hard but color me unimpressed with the organization overall. If our big success this year is finally getting the #9 pick that we acquired 6 years ago, I have a hard time saying this year was anything but a bust.

Rockets had an excuse. They loss their big man while the Jazz simply failed to have any direction from management. KOC has to go and has to go now. I would have fired Sloan svereal years ago BUT I do think he did a very good job this year with the players he had on the roster.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Rockets actually have a pretty decent future if Yao can come back. Brooks/Martin/Battier/Scola/Yao is just sick.

If the Jazz (with Boozer) would beat Phoenix you would post about great season wouldn't you?
I should be on Lacob payroll...

3 seed, home court advantage in the first round and a much more even match up in the second round, and a NW division champ. .

Yes I would have considered that a much finer season.

It's a pity....
We had some shameful losses
2 vs Minnesotta
2 vs Kings
2 vs Rockets
1 vs New Orleans
1 vs Clippers
1 vs Indiana
1 vs Grizzlies

What have they in common?
They are not going to play in playoff.
Only one.... only one win more of those and we would be 3rd... only 2 and we would be 2nd...
SHAME!!!

Bat has a point. This regular season's goals have not been achieved, so it was a failure indeed.
And It's not the Phoenix game; that's a game you can lose. It's the way our guys played that game, it's the way we lost to MIN or SAC or NO or DEN without Anthony and Billups or the Lakers without Bryant/Bynum.... looking scared, useless, unable to run the most basic set of plays, and with a franchise guy absolutely lost, not knowing how to adjust basic things out there...

It's hard to call a 53 wins season in the West "a failure" since the Jazz went beyond my expectations indeed... I expected no more than 47-48 winst... but the goals are not there and the team seems as flawed as it's been for several years now...

Now we can get ready for our inglorious playoff exit and another season will be completed.

I can hear the owner now: we just need to see what this team without Boozer can do when it is fully healthy.

Considering at the beginning of the season everyone was talking about how we were screwed financially and that we would trade Boozer to the best bidder etc etc, we had a pretty good season. 53 wins is no fluke. Yes we suffered some bad losses, but every team has a few games they wish they could get back. Its just the nature of an 82 game schedule in the NBA....

Its sad to think we are going to lose again in round 1, but I just dont see how we can beat the Nuggets in a series without home court, especially given our injury problems.

It was a nice run, Jazz....you were the best team in the league for about 2.5 months. But as is so often the case with Jerry Sloan teams, you peaked too soon and then wore down.....

The problem is that the FO insists on spending $ on mentally weak, injury prone non-leaders without killer instincts. CJ is too happy-go-lucky to ever reach his potential. Boozer is injury prone, but not nearly as injury prone as the player who makes the most money on this team...and nobody is talking about it.

Does anyone realize how many collective games AK and Memo miss each year? Yeah, they're great players...
when they actually play. AK has some serious problems with self-nutrition; he's admitted himself that he "doesn't enjoy eating". He's sidelined by 4 or 5 fickle bruises and tweaks every year.

EVERY time this team builds momentum, our chemistry is blown to pieces by a couple of stupid, weak injuries. We need to STOP investing in these players, as well as guys like CJ and Korver who are big question marks every single night.

I mean it's understandable to have one or two streaky players, but championship teams are built with leaders and solid, consistent, RELIABLE role players who bring the same thing night in, night out.

We don't have any of those things.

As a whole, this season was a disappointment, but certainly not a failure.
