Possible Recipe for Victory vs. Lakers

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Sun May 2, 2010 5:20 am

Facts:
The height and length of the Lakers kills the Jazz because we have two of the smallest power forwards in the league. Boozer and Millsap struggle mightily against tall athletic big men. We also struggled against the Lakers because we had one of the slower, unathletic centers in the league.

However, during the season we were basically the best shooting and assisting team in the NBA 49.1% & 26.3 assists a game. But, against the Lakers we lose both of these advantages (FG%, and Assists). It did help give us a great advantage over Denver, because they are a notoriously selfish. We shot 50.5% against the Nuggets during these playoffs. Percentages should go down in the postseason because defense is supposed to pick up substantially, and teams can plan against each other better.

Can we expect the same shooting % against LA? No. We shot 43% against them during the season, and I believe we shot 37% against them in the playoffs last year.

What do I suggest, now that we are even shorter than last year?

Motion Offense.

We used it effectively during AK's all star year in 2004 when we went 41 and 41. Mostion Offense would magnify our shooting skills and passing ability, while keeping the Lakers off balance. I think we might stand a chance with this. I think our offensive rebounds would go up, and our shot selection will be better than having to have Boozer arch his shot over the moon, and Millsap constantly contort his body to get his shot off.

It also puts the game even more in Deron's hands which is our only advantage in this series. The Lakers are simply better players 2-6. Yes, Odom is better than Millsap. At least in this matchup.

Thoughts.

Unless Jerry has been having the team practice with motion offense all year, it is too late to mix things up now.

The key to this series is going to be finding a way to slow down the Jazz-killer that is Lamar Odom.

^^^^ but not a half bad idea. Hopefully after being eliminated by LA the past two years, the jazz coaching staff has at least been looking into possible scenarios to throw at LA.

This.

They key is Lamar Odom, he kills us everytime. Odom is the Lakers JR Smith, if we can limit him we should be able to weather to storm that you are going to get from Kobe and Gasol. You just can't let everyone else get easy points, Kobe and Gasol are going to do their thing it's everyone else that is going to really hurt you.

Control the scrubs and Odom and you control the series.

Let Koufos punch Odom's nuts and yell "boom bitches!" afterwards. That will sure ruin the Lakers "Zen karma" BS that PJ works on during the season.

That in itself would make this series worth it lol...

Boozer and Sap do not stuggle when the opponent has one tall lengthy guy as passing and quick steps can usually offset it. Unfortunately the Lakers have 2-3 tall lengthy guys, so if you get around one you still have another in your face. This is where both of them struggle. We will need to hit our outside shots consistently to beat this team. Their was many times all 5 Laker defenders were in the paint as we attacked the basket. We've got to hit shots consistenly to spread them out. This will make rebound easier as well. This is where we miss Okur's outside shot pulling their big guy out of the paint.

Run and gun and play AK-47 at PF and Boozer at center to start game as half court offense will not work versus Lakers.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

The Jazz are not going to beat the LA if our bigs can't get a single call.
Booz, Millsap, Fes, and Koufos were a combined 0 for 0 for free throws in game 1.
I didn't think it was possible to go 0 for 0 in the playoffs??

The solution's for beating the Lakers
1, The NBA is overthrown and a set of independent officials are brought in to officiate the games. No more refs working for David Stern.
2. The Taliban can set off a Nuke in LA and kill them all.
3. Fes Jumps into Pau Gasols knees.

Y'all are starting to sound exactly like the Nuggets fans you were criticizing for whining.

Game 1 was a close, tough loss. If the Jazz play with effort and rebound better they can win game 2. No need to involve WMDs.
