Question from a Knick fan

Hey guys most of you know me from the NY pick thread. I have a short question---I was contemplating FAs recently and I haven't watched a whole lot of Utah games this season but lately I've been watching Utah games occasionally, paying a lot of attention to Boozer.
He's obviously a strong offensive player and terrific rebounder and decent passer but to my surprise I found his defense wasn't that ****. It is not good but he does play physical post defense and overall I'd rate him as an average defender but like I said I only watched him a few times. My question is how do you guys rate Boozer's defense in comparison to other top PFs and the league in general?

Defense in the NBA is generally a myth. Outside of Dwight Howard and a younger Tim Duncan, I'm not sure there are many "good" post defenders in the NBA. Booz is not a shot blocker, and he's a below average help defender because he's always late on his rotations. He will get the occasional steal, and he's one of the best defensive rebounders in the league. Jazz fan's have been lamenting his defense for years, but the truth is, like most NBA stars, he just doesn't give as much effort on the defensive end. He's not the worst defender in the league, certainly; but I wouldn't hold my breath for him to make an appearance on an all-defensive team either.

Tis was without question his best defensive year. He also played about half his minutes at the 5 spot alongside Millsap and my opinion is that he's a better 5-defender than 4-defender. I think quick 4s give him more problems than tall 5s.

I'm pretty sure he's a better defender than Zach Randolph, Amare Stoudemire and David Lee.

ok thanks guys that's pretty much how I rated his defense. A little above the other no defense PFs but not great either.

If Boozer wont return to Utah mabey we can do a sign and trade, in return you can send an unprotected draft pick, since Boozer is sure to be healthy the year after he gets a large contract and you guys are sure to be one of the best teams in the league, so their is no "real" chance the pick is a lotto pick. Besides everyone knows NY will sign Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. This way they get boozer too.

I thought he held his own this year. In years past he's been a liability.

If you want our pick you have to sign and trade with Houston, not us. I'm hearing that Houston is looking for a strong PF so maybe you find a fit there :lol:

He's got decent hands on defense, so he can strip the ball when he really tries. But he doesn't step in front of people cutting to the basket, he doesn't challenge shots, and it seems he just has pure lapses on rotations and finding someone to box out on the defensive glass at times.

His defensive awareness is worse than most player in the league.
