Cole Aldrich's size is disappointed

w/o shoes: only 6-9 reach:9-3.5

comparison with other Players!!!

B. Lopez:w/o shoes: 6-11.25 reach:9-5

J. Mcgee: w/o shoes: 6-11 reach:9-5

J. Noah: w/o shoes: 6-10.5 reach:8-11

He's really big feet, and those add like 2 in though. Height in shoes is still how they measure it for official NBA purposes. He's got a real big wingspan (7 '4 I think?), which helps make up for some of it.

I was a little disappointed, and I still would rather take Ekpe Udoh, but I think aldrich is still a solid pick.

One more comparison:

Dwight Howard: w/o shoes: 6-9 Reach: 9'3.5

Of course, Dwight has 55 pounds on Aldrich...

How is this disappointing if his reach is 9-3.5? I checked the measurements and the longest of any is 9-5 of Whiteside and Cousins, and a couple others. Boozer is only 9-1 and Millsap under 9.

You don't block shots with your head.

Which is why you draft Hassan Whiteside with the 9th pick...who stands 6'10.5" w/o shoes and has a 7'7" WINGSPAN

This dude has the drive to be the best and he is working with one the the greats, The Dream! Read his interview from the front page...http://www.realgm.com/src_feature_piece ... t_combine/

"I'm just working with Hakeem Olajuwon," said Whiteside. "He's like my mentor now."

Whiteside is a good shooter for a big and I asked him if he feels more comfortable out there and if he'll be willing to go down low in the NBA.

"I played on the perimeter when I was younger," said Whiteside. "I was a guard and then I grew seven inches (at 16) and became a big man."

I also asked Whiteside how much room he has to improve and whether he believes he can develop into an All-Star center.

"I'm looking to be a Hall of Famer. I have big goals."

Analyzing the NBA Combine Measurements
May 22, 2010
The freakiest measurements of all belong to Hassan Whiteside. The soon-to-be 21-year-old freshman bafflingly elected to arrive for measurements in flip-flops (a true story), which only gave him an additional inch in shoes (6-10 ½ without shoes, 6-11 ½ with)—as opposed to Cole Aldrich who gained 2 ¼ inches. With that said, he possesses one of the longest wingspans in NBA pre-draft camp history at 7-7.

He has had comparisons to Marcus Camby to Kevin Garnett, which is why if we get either of Camby or Garnett we are in great shape!

Ya I'm not too worried about it since he has a great wingspan. His long reach makes up for his heighth and who cares if he adds 2 inches with shoes? You don't play in bare feet and like someone mentioned above you don't block shots with your head either.

Drafting Aldrich would be a huge let down regardless.....we've gone this route before.

I would love Aldrich, but I don't think he gets to 9. We'll have to get to at least 7 for a shot at him, imo.

As for his height, all the relevant points have already been made. You play basketball in your shoes, and Cole has as good a standing reach as all but the very longest centers in the NBA. He has excellent size for a big guy, and all it took was actually watching him play to see that he is going to be a defensive force for whoever nabs him. My biggest concern with him will be his mental capacity. That is the only thing that has kept Kosta off the court. If Cole has the basketball IQ to know his rotations and get to where he needs to be to help his teammates defensively, he would fix what ails the Jazz.

Still, I don't see us getting him.

His measurements certainly wont' help him on draft night.

When? If you are talking about Ostertag, he was far from the 9th player taken in the draft and actually did what you would expect a 28th pick to do.

Agreed, and it bugs me how many people are associating Aldrich with Ostertag in the first place just because he's a white center from Kansas. Aside from being highly overpaid, Ostertag was a passable defensive center.

Name the last Kansas big man to be worthy of a top ten pick. Raef Lafrentz, Drew Gooden, Nick Collison? He's as overrated as they were.

We shouldnt worry about his height however his weight is a concern only 237 lbs? for a center thats pretty poor. Whiteside is even smaller at 227, I want to like whiteside but too much of him screams sene who had a 7"8 wingspan, plus i have heard whiteside isnt the brightest and if you have a poor bball IQ you wont see much time on the court for sloan,

That's the kinda fallacious thinking that got the Green Bay Packers a Cal Quarterback.

If thats the best argument you can come up with, you just proved my point.

No your point is totally invalid. Your point is a text book fallacy. Your point is stupid.

Not the point that Aldrich will be a bust, time will tell there, but your correlation to other players from Kansas.

And your choice to ignore a very clear pattern throughout history is even more stupid.

That's not a clear pattern. You made up a pattern using a very small sample size. You can play that game with even the most successful programs like Duke and North Carolina. Most NCAA stars don't end up being stars. Most NBA draft picks do not end up being stars.

Most stars who are top ten picks are not busts...unless theyre from Kansas.
