2 trades this summer

Post#1 » by tmb3 » Mon May 24, 2010 10:12 pm

There are 2 trades the Jazz should make this summer.

Trade 1:
Jazz trade - Okur and future Memphis pick
Detroit trades - Prince

Detroit's Lineup:
Okur/Aldrich or Monroe
Villinueva/Wilcox
Jerebko/Daye
Hamilton/Gordon
Stuckey/Bynum

This gives Detroit a solid big man, which was their biggest weakness last year. It also gives them a future top 15-20 pick. Would this be enough incentive for them to take Okur's contract? Prince is expiring, so this helps us unload Okur's contract while still getting a serviceable player.

Trade 2:

Jazz Sign-and-trade Boozer
Charlotte trades - Chandler and Augustin

Jazz lineup:

Chandler/Whiteside, Udoh, or Aldrich
Sap/AK
AK/Prince
Matthews/Miles
DWill/Augstine

Bobcats Lineup

Nazr/Ajinxa or Diop
Boozer/Diaw
Wallace/Jackson
Jackson/Henderson
Felton/Hughes or FA

Why for the Jazz?

These two trades would get the Jazz out from under Memo's contract and get us something in exchange for Boozer. With Chandler and Whiteside,Udoh, or Aldrich we would always have a shot blocker in the game. We would instantly become a championship caliber defensive team. Prince, AK, and Matthews would give us excellent perimiter and help defenders on the wing. This would also allow AK to play half of his minutes at his natural PF position. The question would be would we be able to score enough points to compete?

The main reasons I would do these trades are financial. We would have AK, Chandler, and Prince coming off the books at the end of next season. This would give us the opportunity to land a top-tier FA next summer to team up with Dwill. This would also allow us to trade those expiring contracts at the trade deadline if a team decides to unload contracts that could potentially make us contenders.

Next step: build a time machine to go back in time to when Chandler and Prince were good.

This isn't a trade to to get Chandler and Prince because of their abilities, this is a trade to unload Memo's contract and get some financial flexibility. We are not going to compete with the roster we have, so this gets rid of a couple contracts and will put us in position to get the pieces next to Dwill we need(whether that be a trade deadline deal or FA next summer). We would have 35-40 million dollars in expiring contracts to dangle in front of teams at the deadline, or that much to go out and sign a couple big FAs next summer.

Wait until Memo comes back, starts averaging his customary 18/9 with Boozer out of the lineup and then trade him straight across for Prince.

Memo has a good contract for a former all star center who could be again in the east.

I do this deal if the Jazz want the cap space next summer, and feel like the big man they draft this season and the progress of our other centers gives them reason to move on from Memo.

My preferred trade would be to do a three-way trade

Memo to Detroit
Prince to Philly
Dalembert to Utah

If Memo is playing this well, we should also command a pick from each team, perhaps a protected #1, and a second rounder.

That is if the Jazz feel they have center pretty well locked up.

Or, if Philly is playing well with Evan Turner, they may be open to swapping Iggy too. Don't know if I want his bloated contract though.

Not a horrible idea. Hopefully, something better comes around for the Jazz in terms of S&Ts. I like Okur myself, but watching him and AK injured every season for some games stunts the Jazz's growth already. One of those guys have to get traded.

Dwight 2011-2012 - 20.6 Points - 14.5 Rebounds - 2.1 Blocks

I think my ideal two trades now are a consolidation of two from other threads + one extra cleanup trade:

1) AK + 9th pick for Brand + 2nd pick. Use the 2nd pick on Evan Turner
2) S&T Boozer to Orlando for Bass + Gortat
3) Trade Millsap or Bass to a team under the cap for draft picks. This clears out the logjam at F and puts the Jazz back under the tax (I think, I'm too lazy to look for sure).

This gives the Jazz a projected depth chart of:

1) Deron/Price
2) Matthews/Turner
3) Turner/Miles
4) Brand/(Millsap or Bass)
5) Gortat/Okur/Brand

(I've left Korver off because I don't think he'll be back and I've left off Fesenko, Koufos, Gaines and Jeffers because well, they're scrubs).

I ok with your idea except I prefer Biedrens over Gortat. Gortat, as has been seen in the Celtics series, is extremely soft (i.e. similiar to Memo defensively). The Jazz need to add a center who is physcial defensively! I also think Matthews goes to the bench as Miles earned his starting spot late in the year.

I agree. I'll take Miles starting over Matthews. He's finally improving. A lot... and I like it.
