Utah Jazz with the 2nd pick select Derrick Favors...
Alright KOC this is how its going to go...

On draft day trade Kirilenko and 2011 Memphis pick to Philly for Brand and #2 pick (Favors) [been a rumor floatin around]

Couple weeks later...

Sign and trade Carlos Boozer and who NJ wants us to select at #9 for them for Brook Lopez and who we want them to select at #3 (Turner) [another rumor I found on another message board saying they heard it on the radio]

Trade Paul Millsap since he won't want to play second fiddle another season to Portland for Joel Przybilla.

Sign Wesley Matthews to bianual exemption (trust me no one is gonna over pay for guy that is barely 6'5", you can find that easily in this league)

Sign either Joey Graham or Sasha Pavlovic to part of your MLE for about 2.5 to 3 mil cause both of these guys can actually keep their man in front of them unlike Korver. With the rest of the MLE for about 1.5 to 2 mil sign a point guard that has experience, either a Luke Ridnour or Steve Blake.

Then we are sittin' pretty with...

Williams/Blake or Ridnour/Price
Turner/Matthews
Miles/Graham or Pavlovic
Brand/Favors (gives him time to develop, hes only 18)/Koufos
Lopez/Przybilla/Okur (put on trading block when he comes back healthy)

Why Philly does this with us, we have a history with Philly on making deals ie. Korver deal, Fesenko deal, and Hornecek deal, and not just the history but they have come out and said if we can get out of the contract of Elton Brand they would through in the #2 pick for incentive.

Why New Jersey does this trade, well they want to lure a free agent there and are they going to lure a free agent with Lopez and Turner or are they going to get an all-star caliber free agent with an all-star power forward in Boozer and a big man like Monroe or Aldrich. Because with Turner they will have to play him and the likes of Dwayne Wade or Joe Johnson play Evan Turner's position, then this way they have lured two all-star free agents by getting Boozer in a trade which he will be signed longer for since it was a sign and trade with us and either a Joe Johnson or Dwayne Wade, since it sounds like Lebron is staying put.

The future would be so bright with a core of Williams, Turner, Favors, and Lopez. We would have to be favorites in the West for years to come.

It may just be a pipe dream...but KOC would be praised forever if he pulled off a dream offseason like this! We will build you a statue KOC if this happens (after saying this Turner and Favors have career ending injuries knowing our luck, knock on wood!)

Besides getting into the specifics of why Philly / NJ say no, I think we would draft evan turner with 2. His versatility / personality / work ethic probably puts him at the top of our big board I think. Just a great teammate / worker / person, in addition to filling a need (albeit a lesser need than bigs). It's also the safer move, which has been the Jazz's guiding principal so far.

Slow down there....you want to trade Millsap (after paying for his 1 expensive year) for Pryzbilla (1 year left on his deal)?
Millsap: Season avgs: 11.6 pts, 6.8 rbds, 1.2 blocks (18, 8.8, 1.4 in the playoffs)
Pryzbilla: Season avgs: 4.1 pts, 7.9 rbds, 1.4 blocks -- only played 30 games due to season ending knee injury
So now the Jazz depend on Brand at PF:
- only played 113 games in 3 years due to injury
- 3 years removed from his 20/10 days
- averaged career lows the past 2 seasons (yes, last year his numbers were down from the previous year)
- earns 16, 17, and 18 mill over the next 3 years
- he is backed up by an 18 year old and Koufos?

This smacks of fantasy basketball trades to begin with but I'm not sure that this roster makes us favorites in the west for years to come. You upgrade at 5, downgrade big time at 4 in the short term, and downgrade the 3. Turner steps in as the starter at 2? No improvement at backup 1--there are still weaknesses in that roster that the best of the west would take advantage of.

Have you ever watched Favors play? I saw two Georgia Tech games this season and never noticed him. I like my top pick to have at least been a dominant college player.

I have my doubts that the Sixers will give up the #2 pick and not get a real piece back.

That New Jersey rumour is outright terrible for the Nets and there's no way it happens. More likely they sign Boozer and keep Lopez and the #3 pick. It'd be stupid not to.

No interest in trading Millsap to the Blazers for an injured guy.

Sign Matthews, fine. I agree he's probably not going to get offered a big contract, but he'll make more than the Bi-annual exception.

As a Canadian, I saw a lot of Joey Graham with the Raptors and he belongs nowhere near this team. His basketball IQ is too low to survive a practice under Sloan, let alone a season. And I don't think you know how historically bad Sasha Pavlovic was last year.

Can Millsap be traded to Portland now? Has that prohibition expired?

I believe they have to wait a year to trade him. They could trade him to any team other than Portland with his consent prior to one year. But even with his consent he couldn't be traded to Portland until July [whatever]. At least that's how I understand it.

I'd love to know how the Philly trade, which now involved the Memphis pick as opposed to #9, is being considered a "rumor" by anyone. It would have to at least be proposed by one team to the other, and I know Philly wouldn't propose that offer.

So, did Utah propose it and it's been picked up as a rumor? Or is it just forum BS that people are making up?

One of your posters came to the Sixers board claiming it was AK + #9 for Brand + #2. Now you're saying the Memphis pick??

That is so not going to happen.

Rumors don't come from Utah. They are usually made up my columnists, but they never ever ever come from the organization.

The Philly trade with Brand and the 2nd pick is legit but you are giving up the 9th pick and AK, not the Memphis pick. It would make 0 sense for them to make that deal unless they get the 9th pick. We are going to be lucky to ever get the chance to use that Memphis pick with that teams history/future. We should just all forget about it cause it's nearly worthless.

The Jazz would take Turner, the NBA is going to a guard powered league and Favors has plenty of question marks about him still while Turner is a polished product. We wouldn't need Favors with Brand, Millsap and whoever anyways.

Here is my take on it: I think Brand will come back strong this year because it take at least 18 months to recover from the injury he sustained, and now that he has gone through that, I think he will pick things up again. With that said, this is what I do.

AK & #9
for
Brand & #2

#2-Evan Turner
for
#4, #16, #23, From Minnesota

With the #4 Pick we take D. Cousins
With the #16th Pick we package Brand to Detroit for #7, Rip Hamilton 3x $12.6M, Chris Wilcox 1yr $3M
With the 7th Pick we select Wesley Johnson or Greg Monroe
With the 23rd Pick we select a SF or PF that drops depending on what we got at #7.

I think Minnesota is dying to get #2 and Turner, and I think they would jump all over this. The only real question is Philadelphia. If I am them, I just swallow the contract for the next couple years, stink as a team and get better picks because of it, and then in 3 years they will look a lot better than they will realistically get by just doing a salary dump. But for the sake of this argument, here is what our line-up looks like.

Williams/Price
Hamilton/Matthews
CJ/#23 James Anderson/Paul George/ or #7 Wesley Johnson
Millsap/#7Greg Monroe or #23 Patrick Patterson, Larry Sanders VCU
Cousins/Okur

Cousins becomes the next Moses Malone under Sloan, Wesley Johnson becomes and All Star, and Rip Hamilton Expires when we need to re-up our two young studs.

This is the draft to make something happen with the talent that is at the top of the draft. We just aren't going to get free agents of any significance in the future, we need to get good through the draft or Deron will be gone in 3, and we will definetly be bad and will have to improve through the draft.

If a Philly, GSW, or other deal is available to pick up any of the top 2-6 prospects in this draft, we have to do it!

If somehow, magically, the Jazz trade up for the second pick... well... it would be just crazy not to pick Evan Turner. I can only dream about Williams, Turner playing together... it would be insanely orgasmic.

Of ocurse, Turner is completely out of reach for the Jazz.
