The Grizzlies are going to get a lot worse this offseason by losing Rudy Gay and they have a strong history of tanking when out of contention, so I doubt that pick ever pays off. If they can get a pick in the later teens for the Grizzlies pick, or move up with the Grizzlies pick, they should do it.

I believe that was the main reason they acquired the pick in exchange for Brewer in the first place. Kevin O'Connor has a history of draft night trades, and I fully expect him to use the pick (as well as possible future picks) to facilitate a trade. It would not surprise me to see the Jazz try and swing a deal with Jersey, Minnesota or Sacto for their pick in exchange for Millsap, #9 and the Grizzlies future first rounder.

As much as it scares me, I think the Jazz are going to max Boozer (money, not years) and let Millsap go. The Jazz aren't likely to be this high in the draft again for some time, so there has never been a better time to try and move up to get that potential all-star. If Cousins slips to five or six, then I could definitely see the Jazz making that move.

Is this true? The only draft night trade, outside of swapping late second rounders, that I can think of is the D-Will trade. What other trades were there?

I don't think the Grizz will suck enough to not ever be able to use the pick. It's still a good piece for trades though.

Sloan would have a brain crisis if O'Connor use limited Jazz resources to get a 17% body fat dude with questionable attitude under the thinking taht guy's the next All Star in SLC. Coach would believe Kevin's on drugs or something!

The jazz have only been in the top 10 in the draft 3 times (I think). The other two times were when they drafted Dominique, who they traded and DW, who they traded up to get. So while I don't know if the trade above is viable, I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade happen.

I could see the Jazz giving up the memphis pick and possibly their own for a teens 1st round pick this year if a player they like drops (Henry, Babbitt, or perhaps taking a flier on a Orton type big).

Too high a price to jump up only a few spots at that range. He's not falling becaise the teams in the top 5 are too intimidated by his awesomeness.

I'm down with this plan.

I am not nearly as keen to the prospect of landing Cousins. I think he will be a bust, from what I have seen. He could be amazing as well. If they do trade up for him, I will be biting my nails for years to come.

I think there have been others too.

I'm not saying the trade I proposed is whats going to happen, but I think something along those line might be in the Jazz's plans. The only way you win NBA championships is with stars. Most stars are drafted early, and the Jazz are rarely going to be in the neighborhood of those caliber of players on draft night. Strike while the iron is hot I say.

Watching Perkins and Glen Davis play very well for the Celtics is making me re-evaluate my "no fatties!" draft rule.

Jazz should roll the dice on Cousins if possible, especially if all it takes is that Memphis pick.

Since we don't know the protection on the Memphis pick it is kind of hard to say what the best thing to do with it is.

However I do think the Jazz need to make sure they keep the talent on this level as high as possible, and if moving it along with the #9 pick allows the Jazz move up in the #6 spot to get Cousins you have to do it. The guy is a beast, and will get into better shape as an NBA player.
