Benefits for the Jazz?

Jazz save 6 million dollars going into next season, they sure up the SF spot by adding Andres Nocioni who would fit in very well with this Jazz system. Nocioni is a Sloan guy through and through. They add Francisco Garcia as a great shooter with good length to come off the bench, and replace Korver who let allow to leave in free agency. In addition, they move up in draft and assure themselves the ability to pick pretty much any big man they desire other than Derrick Favors. The Jazz also likely save enough money to make singing Boozer a reality if they desire.

Matthews/Garcia
Nocioni/Miles
Boozer/Millsap/Koufos
Cousins/Memo/Fesenko

Why do the Kings do it?

Nocioni had a bad season for them last year, and with Casspi looking like the real deal, they probably don't need his services anymore. By unloading Garcia's long term they open up a lot of money to resign Landry next off season, and could probably resign AK about about a third of what he is being paid now. Plus adding AK makes their team better next season. They move down to the 9 because it's rumored they aren't in love with anyone at the #5 spot, and could likely get a contributor with the #9 pick, and get the Memphis pick they can wait on to see if it turns into anything in the future.

The Jazz could also add in the Harpring Trade Exception to give Sacramento some extra room to move around with trades during the season if they so desire.

If the Jazz are trying to trade up its to get a good big and then to LET BOOZER GO.

I don't know why the Jazz would let Boozer go if they could afford to resign him and still add a talented player in the draft.

I'd do that trade. Not bad.

There are three/four prospects the Kings are interested in and maybe one will be available at 9. Don't see that happening although its possible.

Also, who would the Jazz be moving up to get, Monroe?

If the Jazz are able to move up, I think they should take a serious look at Wesley Johnson, if he is still on the board. Cousins just seems like he was born destined to be in Sloan's doghouse. Wesley Johnson could be a legit player, and I think he is less of a risk than Cousins. Plus, if he and C.J. both play well, then we have C.J. as a bargaining chip that we could possibly use as part of a package to get a big. Then on the other hand, I'm sure we could use Cousins as a bargaining chip as well. Trade Cousins to a team with a coach who is known for guiding immature or unruly talents. Like Phil Jackson.

Either way, it seems unlikely that either of those players are still available at 5. Trading that much just to get Monroe, seems like a bit of a reach. And I really like Monroe's game! Aminu is another intriguing player that I wouldn't mind seeing in a Jazz uni.

Ultimately, I think I'd do this trade. Cousins, Johnson, Monroe, or Aminu could all help this team more than I feel Udoh, Aldrich, Babbit, Whiteside or any of the other players available at 9 could.

Then why is he projected to go top 4 in a pretty talented draft class? The kid can play! And its not as if he had 2 horrible seasons before that. His last year was just, by far, his best. I agree it'd be risky, but what player available at 5 won't be, and would be worth trading up for?

The last guy to get drafted out of Syracuse with one year of college experience turned out pretty darn good........

We're saving the KIngs over $10 million in this deal, there's no need to throw in the Memphis pick....... It's not like we're trading for a top 3 pick.......

Johnson is a transfer from Iowa State who is already a JR. His potential isn't Carmelo type potential and he's projected as a role player.......

Great trade for the KIngs!!!! As for the Jazz, I am not so sure. First, Miles starts and chucker nicioni comes off the bench while Garcia replaces Korver. The Jazz lose their best defender as well. The Jazz would only do this if there is a player int he draft they defintely want!!!!!

Johnson is projected to have a ceiling like Shawn Marion. A ceiling doesn't mean he is destined to be like that, just a possibliutyt. He only shot one good one year in college. He is not good at creating his own shot. He scored alot on isolation plays against guys smaller than him. He is a decent defender. He left Iowa St because he wasn't the focus of the offense. Even if he was as good as a young Marion we won't be contenders with the interior we have. He is projected at 4 because Minnesota intends to fill a SG need and he is the best available at that spot, after Evan Turner has been taken.

By anyone who has watched the guy....all he can do on offense is shoot and dunk. He isn't even the best in the draft at shooting either. Johnson rode preseason hype after a couple good games in the NIT. Not only that, but Wesley Johnson is older for his class, he's already 22. Most seniors that are going to be in the NBA put up his numbers. Only difference between Johnson and say a Quincy Pondexter, is that Johnson can shoot. Johnson is NOT worth a top 5 pick at all. Xavier Henry would be a better risk at #5 with his polish as a freshman, not a 22 year old Junior.

While he's not Carmelo, he's not a one-trick pony by any means....... He's a great shooter, he can pass, he can rebound........

Who cares if he's 22...... He's pretty good....... I'm not saying he's championship caliber, or would put us in the NBA finals, but he's going to be a very good pro........

The point is that Utah would hypothetically be giving up a huge expiring and taking on salary, first of all, why would you take someone that might be able to bring you in what you had in Kirilenko? Next, when you are taking a player in the top 5, you usually don't settle for a role player. Wes Johnson will never be more than a role player in the NBA because he doesn't create and there are very few star SG/SF's that don't create for themselves...Johnson doesn't exactly show elite off the ball movement either. If anything, staying at 9 and taking Xavier Henry or even moving up a spot or 2 for him would be much cheaper.

I'm not saying the Jazz should do this deal.......

I am huge on Cousins, which I get the sense that many of you are not. But the only way I move up is if we can get Cousins, Favors, Wall, Turner, or Monroe (not in that order).

If the Jazz cant trade into top 2 picks then I would stay at 9 or trade down!!! Trading up is only a good idea if you target someone like the Jazz did with DWILL and other than the top 2 players I dont see the need to trade up.
