Josh Childress.

Post#1 » by raleigh » Thu Jun 17, 2010 2:49 am

Hawks' fan here -

I was looking at options for S&T's of Josh Childress this offseason and noticed that the Jazz have a TPE, an "extra" future pick, and some expiring contracts. Do you guys think the Jazz management would be interested in adding Josh? He seems like a good fit under Sloan, essentially replacing what Brewer brought to the team.

It's my understanding that he's looking for a deal starting at the MLE and the Hawks are looking for as little returning salary as possible (unless real talent is being offered, of course). The TPE makes it a lot easier to construct possible trades.

For those who don't remember, Childress' strengths:

Good perimeter defender
Above average athleticism
Finishes well around the basket
Good handles
Strong offensive rebounder
High basketball IQ

His weaknesses:
Poor perimeter shot
Lacks strength

Thoughts?

Not a bad thought. I think more than a few teams have that thought too, so it's up to more parties than just the Jazz.

If Utah does draft a big, it could be a possibility if Wes Matthews doesn't take too much cap and they let Boozer walk. Childress is a type of player Utah typically likes and now that they have that $7M exception they could use if they can afford it.

a worse version than ronnie brewer who the jazz traded away for that future pick...makes no sense for the Jazz.

For our system Childress is a much better player. He is a better passer, team defender (won't get as many steals, but he also doesn't gamble as much) and he can hit those 12-15 footers that the Lakers just left Brewer open to take. I don't think he is worth the full MLE (maybe four million per year) but he would be a nice player to have on our roster.

I've always been a Childress fanboy. I'd love to see what Sloan could do with him, but I agree that obviously the Boozer situation has to be resolved before we take on any contracts with that TPE.

childress would be an excellent fit for the Jazz at the 3.
