Who do you want the Jazz to pick?

I know this has been done before, but with one week to go, who do you guys want the Jazz to pick in the draft? I'm not completely sold on any of the guys that will likely be available for us at 9, so I'd like to get an idea on what Jazz fans are thinking about who we should pick. So, who do you got?

Monroe is topping my wish list right now. But, I expect Aldrich. None too excited for a Babbit.

Monroe would be great if he falls obviously.

Udoh would bring the defense we so sorely lack.

Aldrich would be the super safe pick here.

Whiteside only if we trade down and can somehow get another pick.

Whiteside and Babbit could result in a good draft night.

Monroe, Aldrich, Davis, Henry and that is it. Hopefully we have an opportunity to buy a late pick and pick up a big or wing depending on who we pick at 9.

Here is an NBA.com article which has created a concensus mock draft for the 2010 draft. http://www.nba.com/2010/news/05/18/cons ... index.html

The current list is (though should be updated before the draft):
1 J.Wall
2 E.Turner
3 D.Favors
4 D.Cousins
5 W.Johnson
6 G.Monroe
7 A.Aminu
8 E.Davis
9 C.Aldrich
10 E.Udoh
11 X.Henry
12 P.Patterson
13 L.Babbitt
14 G.Hayward

Interestingly only once in the last 4 drafts (1 in 24 = 4%) has a projected top 6 pick fell out of the top 8 (Brook Lopez in 2008, drafted 10). I know it is only a small sample (couldnt be bothered going back any further) but recent history says it is unlikely any of the Top 6 will be available when we pick.

Also only once has the no 7 (1 in 4 = 25%) fell out of the top 8 (Bayless in 2008, drafted 11) and only once the no 8 (1 in 4 = 25%) fell out of the top 8 (Noah in 2007, drafted 9).

The truth is you should always draft the best available player irrespective of position, that being the case, and considering the recent history (i.e. exclude the top 6 players) I reckon:

1. A.Aminu (if available)
2. X.Henry
3. C.Aldrich
4. E.Davis

If we trade up to 5 or higher:
1. Cousins
2. Favors
3. Monroe

Otherwise:
1. Monroe
2. George
3. Sanders
4. Aldrich (growing on me, you guys are very convincing)
5. Babbit
6. Henry
7. Udoh

Can't get excited about Aldrich. Im hoping for a miracle that Monroe slides and we can take him.

I expect the Jazz to trade up with either Sacto or GSW to grab Monroe (or Cousins, if he is still there). If that fails then I like Henry, Babbit, or Aminu. If they were to trade back and grab Aldrich in the teens while getting something else, too, then I'm ok with it, but I don't like Aldrich at #9.

Out of reach: Wall, Turner, Favors, Johnson, Cousins, Aminu

Aminu could slip and in that case the Jazz should take him.

Otherwise they should take:
1. Monroe (likely gone)
2. Aldrich
3. Patterson

I'm not a fan of Udoh - he looks good but I can't judge him well based on one season. The guys mentioned above (except for Freshmen) are quite consistent and predictable.

Cousins if we trade up(even though i think he has bust written all over him, still have to take the chance.)
Monroe/Aminu
Aldrich/Udoh/Patterson/Davis

As far as henry and babit go its not that i dont like them but i will be very upset if we take one of them with the 9th pick, i just dont think they fit a serious need for us at such a high pick. If we trade down then im okay with either of those guys.

There's no one in that draft range I consider a sure fire star or a sure fire bust, so no matter who gets drafted I will smile politely and wait for the games to be played.

I think this was the smartest thing said in this thread. Congrats.

If 1 to 5 picks goes as expected and Jazz don't trade up/down/whatever:

UDOH has been my preferred pick at 9 for quite some time, and he's still my guy.
He's got an excellent combination of all the elements the Jazz are looking for: athleticism, quickness, defense, versatility, thoughness, shotblocking, jumpshot, basic+ offense, NBA readiness, work ethic, matureness, even a little bit of post game (the only aspect of his game in which he's got to put some amount of hard work)... name it and you will find some in this player... Some scouting reports putting ludicrous wieght in his age will sound really dumb in the near future, because this dude will be a darn gamer.

MONROE's almost a sure lock top 8, but if he slides down a little bit the Jazz would have to decide if they feel an amazigly skilled but awfully soft guy is what they need in their path to be a championship team; talent and phisically wise, he clearly belongs to the very top of this draft class, and he can have better impact than Wall himself in the future if he develops some thoughness (is toughness something thou can develop?)

DAVIS's got talent, athleticism and great upside combined with the ability to probably contribute in his first year; I'm sold on drafting him before Aldrich.

HENRY's a guy I'd seriously consider; reports saying he can't create and he has good but not very good athleticism will end up looking bad quicker than "experts" believe

ALDRICH's the safe bet, everybody knows it, everybody writes on it, and evreryone's right on it; contribution will be there quickly and it will be fine, but the Jazz should think if can really contribute more than Kosta or Fes this next season; I have a feeling if Jazz decide to draft him there will be some kind of complementary move during draft night

SANDERS' got as high upside as Davis but better physical tools; his measures and athletical capacity really reminds you of Chris Bosh back in time (much more than Davis); this kid if tough and has high potential to be a nightmare... Millsap's character with the body all of us would have wanted Paul to have...

AMINU's one guy with really accurate souting reports everywhere; he can be "the real thing" or he can be "the real bust", I like him but I'm not sure the Jazz should risk on him; of course this is a guy that can really make me look like a freaking tool for saying so...

All that said; I want KOC to be HYPERAGGRESSIVE in this draft. Get us one of Udoh/Monroe/Davis and one of Sanders/Orton/Whiteside or one of Henry/Babbit/Anderson/Geoorge/Hayward and I be freakishly happy. And if you can do whatever to add to that a second rounder of like Parakhousky,Lawal, Shaman, Brackins, White or Collins and I'd be ecstatic for quite some time.

I know, I know... it's too much to ask for... and of course Delaney's right, Jazz will pick well beyond whatever happens after that.

my list in order would be:
1) G. Monroe
2) X. Henry/P. George (i like them both as much, as the 1to choose if Monroe is gone)
3) X. Henry/P. George (i like them both as much, as the 1to choose if Monroe is gone)
4) C. Aldrich
5) L. Sanders
6) L. Babbitt

maybe look for a trade with MIN to get the 16th pick or 23rd pick
R. Hollins/16th or 23rd pick -for: R. Price/K. Koufos/55th pick

Go for a combo of Henry/Sanders or George/Sanders or Aldrich/Babbitt

Updated List (as at 20 June):

1 J.Wall
2 E.Turner
3 D.Favors
4 D.Cousins
5 W.Johnson
6 G.Monroe
7 A.Aminu
8 E.Davis
9 E.Udoh
10 G.Hayward
11 X.Henry
12 L.Babbitt
13 C.Aldrich
14 P.Patterson

The top 8 are in exactly the same order whereas while the bottom 6 are the same players they have all changed positions except Henry. Biggest loser Aldrich, biggest winner Hayward.
