Isn't Jermaine O'Neal a Free Agent?

Any chance the Jazz could sign O'Neal with the Harpring trade exception? Or possibly get him back in a sign and trade if Boozer heads to Miami?

2009-2010 Playoff Leaders

BLOCKS

Dwight Howard - 3.5
Pau Gasol - 2.1
Serge Ibaka - 2.0
Jermaine O'Neal - 2.0
LaMarcus Aldridge - 1.8

He is affordable, and has what the Jazz need. He would be a nice compliment to Okur.

Can't use a trade exception to sign a player.

Not 100% sure if you can do a double sign and trade. Never seen one done. But, I dont know of any rule against it.

J'ON is pretty used up. I would think he could be had for a portion of the MLE much like Brad Miller. Jazz might be as well off just using Fes this year. And that's a much better long term plan.

Somebody else could sign their free agent and send him ton you under your exception. Not sure what they would want in order to do that;

A double sign and trade is doabke if both free agents and both teams are amenable.

JON seems to be decent at times and an injury waiting to happen at others.

He can't play basketball anymore. He made the Heat way worse by just being on the court.

I would sign him for the Vet minimum, maybe a little higher, but honestly he's a stop gap and I don't think the Jazz who are obviously financially strapped should be signing guys who won't have the ability to help the team build.

Coming from somebody who wants Adam freaking Morrison on this team....whats worse, not being able to play anymore, or never being able to play period???

No one's given Morrison a shot since his rookie year. Jermaine has gotten tons of opportunities. O'Neal was a bench warmer in his rookie deal as well 8-)

Ya he would probably help us out but I would have a hard time signing him for more than a year with how old and worn out he looks.

I agree that he will go ring chasing, wouldn't be surprised to see him end up on the Lakers but he will probably stay in Miami with Wade/Bosh.

I think you are right, but the Jazz should be laying in wait when Miami low balls O'Neal and he gets insulted. He may be willing to go ring chasing in Utah. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibilites.

The real catches at center would be Marc Gasol, or Al Hoford, since they are up and coming. Marc defends his brother Pau as well as anyone in the league. Dalembert does prettywell against LA also, but he is extremely expensive, and has already been traded.

I've always found the NBA efficiency rating to be a somewhat useful statistic. Considering the efficiency rankings below, O'Neal still seems to have something left in the tank, but should also be affordable.

Oden would be and extreme risk, but:

1) he did play decent when he wasn't injured,
2) Camby makes him expendable
3) He is still on his rookie contract, and doesn't havemany years left. So he could be considered and experiment.

I think Noah is supposed to be on that list.

Noah doesn't become a FA (restricted) til next offseason. Same as Durant and the other guys from the 2007 draft class.

My bad. I would have loved to dream about picking him up this offseason.

Although I doubt he leaves Chicago after what they'll do this offseason, I'd love to see the Jazz try and get Noah next summer if he explores FA. With AK coming off the books (if we keep him throughout), we'd better make some noise next summer and Noah is absolutely EVERYTHING we need.

Man I wish we could somehow pry him away. Never gonna happen. I'm gonna go be sad now.

Joel Anthony is someone I would take a good long look at grabbing. There are plenty of options out there, we should be able to land someone for a good price while everyone is fighting for the big names.
