i had no idea there were this many this year. when i heard of the epic fa class of 2010, i thought it was from all the high caliber players going at the same time. no idea it was a third of the league. they'll probably all want 3+ years too.

It's too bad Redd isn't a FA, I would love to take a chance on him.

Other than the Big 7 everyone is talking about (excluding Ming who declined his option and a cameo by Diggler who only wanted to reup for more guaranteed money before the new CBA).

Bron, Wade, Bosh
Johnson (over rated), Stoudamire, Boozer and Lee

The next best player available is..

Josh Howard. Unfortunately for him he is a head case and is also injured. The guy can play and should get a 5yr deal starting at min of $9M. I wonder where he ends up.

Next

Point Guards:
Felton
Ridnour
Lowy (RFA)

Glad we have Deron.

Wings:
Pierce (signed)
Allen
Gay (signed)
Salmons (signed)
Reddick (RFA)
Fyre (signed)
Josh Howard

You can see why Korver is going to get a multi year mid level deal from someone.

Forwards:
Tyrus Thomas (RFA)
Luis Scola (RFA)
Drew Gooden (signed)
Udonis Haslem
Al Harrington

Dont see any of these guys in a Jazz uniform.

Centre:
Bredan Haywood
Shaq
Jermaine O'Neal
Nazr Mohammed (ETO)
Ben Wallace

I would much prefer to resign our own free agents (Boozer, Korver, Matthews) but it is possible we might not get any. Above realistically I could only see either ONeal and Mohammed as possible signings.

The main reason the two trades to reduce luxury last year hurt us was because it reduced our depth (Maynor > Price, Brewer > Miles).

Note 1: I would literally trade CJ Miles for a bag of chips. Addition by subtraction.

Some other guys who obviously wont put us over the top but will add value to our bench:

Craig Smith
Anthony Morrow (RFA)
Josh Boone (S&T) (with Favors for Boozer)
Matt Barnes (S&T) (with Gortat, Bass + 1st for Boozer).
Note 2: I dont want Pietrus and his contract. I like Anderson or Reddick (S&T) but neither will happen.
Louis Amundson
Aaron Gray (RFA)

Would love to see Haslem in Jazz uniform. Also Morrow and Amundson would be very nice.

if jazz retain boozer or get something by a sign and trade (fair value). realistically utah is still in need of a 3rd player who could create his own shot .... or else we can never beat the lakers

We are in need of more than that, if we want to beat the Lakers.

There is nobody on the rumored teams who returns fair value for Boozer. Even with Boozer we need more length. When we use our MLE for Matthews our hands will be tied even further. Barring a trade our team will be set.

we'll probably use MLE on Matthews. That leaves the bi-annual exception or vet min as the only avenues to sign a free agent outright.

Other options would be sign and trades, but, those are hard to pull off. We do have some TPEs that could be used for a sign and trade, but, it's rather unlikely we add salary like that unless Boozer departs.

So, if you assume we keep Boozer and Matthews, then assume the only free agents we have a shot at are guys willing to take veteran min.

If we lose Boozer and Matthews we will have MLE and Harpring's TPE available for use. (can't combine)

If we lose Boozer and keep Matthews we -may- use a TPE to add salary, but, even then we'd have to sweeten a TPE with something, either a draft pick or by taking back a contract the other team doesn't want, neither option seem very Jazz like to me.

I believe the most likely scenario is to retain Boozer and Mathews and trade AK to NJ for some salary relief. But, very likely is to lose Boozer, keep mathews, keep AK, and use the TPE + value for a guy like Haslem.

If we traded AK for salary relief we would have enough money to sign a max free agent this year or next (just throwing that out there).

I think we'd need to dump Okur as well.

If we didn't resign Boozer it would put is at just over $40,000,000 - so you're right, but it is still pretty close.
