Joe Johnson has just had a horrible playoff performance and goes on to get a max offer from the Hawks. Now, Rudy freaking Gay also gets the max? Not to mention the contracts being offered to Gooden and Salmons. Teams are so afraid of losing their own FAs, they are just overpaying big time. Boozer is as good as gone IMO. He's gonna get a max offer and there's no way it will be from the Jazz. Hopefully we can work out a sign and trade and get some value back.

I agree.. Hawks basically have driven up the market by giving him the max. If I'm Joe Johnson I'm running to the table with pen in hand with that insane offer. Now Bosh/Boozer/Amare and company will probably demand the same.

The danger is that CBA lurking out there..players know they'll lose after the current CBA expires so they're putting cash>winning right now.. but if they get both...great.

relax. Its the Hawks and the Grizzlies. Go look up how well those teams have performed over the last 2 decades. There's a reason for their ineptitude, and you are seeing it right now. Both of these contracts are terrible, and will come back to haunt the fans of those teams.

Memphis, Atlanta, Mil, and Min have a harder time attracting FA's than UT. They have to overpay them to stay.

Joe Johnson will be overpaid, but we expected that. Rudy Gay getting the max is unreal. He was supposed to be the "cheap" consolation prize. Wow. Not a good sign for what this off-season will bring.

The new CBA makes things such a crapshoot. I think Boozer 'deserves' Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay money. If I was his agent I could make a very strong case that he's mroe valueable than those guys.

I doubt it'll be long before we hear that Boozer has a 5 year 82 million offer on the table. Then we'll be looking at letting him walk or paying him 120 over 6. It's a bad situation. I can see why a sign and trade for a TPE and a late 1st has some appeal.

and this is why I hate the NBA soft cap.

Every team over teh cap gets teh MLE every year.

Every year, or is it every other? No, that's the bi-annual exception. Miller going to LA is bad, but all the others overpaying is fine. This is a one year thing, teams overpaying because they know the system is changing.
