The clownish summer of Lebron James

What's all this crap about entire franchises playing the buffoon for a grown man?
What's all this nonsense about films, multimillionaire fantasy tales, iconic promises et all?

Do you really need all this circus? Because if you do then you need a shrink much more than max contracts, championship rings, childish fairy tales, or the Sopranos mounting an act just for you.

I know Lebron James is just a young kid after all, but it's not good for him to act like a Renaissance courtesan. Is this clownish guy and his clownlike surrounders for real? I really has started to feel red flags all around this dude and his dudes...

The teams are doing it more than he is asking for it. Same thing happened when Tim Duncan and Grant Hill were free agents.

Amen. Hopefully the next CBA puts an end to this junk.. hard cap time, no more TPE/MLE/MAX/90 million payroll vs small market 'we cant spend' cap junk..you see NFL/MLB players running around with a camera crew sayin "what you got to give offer? I'll tell you later if I accept..".

I would love for an NBA owner (prefer cavs owner) to tell james in front of a camera "FU!"

tons respect for men + women in uniform today..zero respect for lebron and company...

*end rant..sorry blowing steam*

NBA and David Stern loving this as NBA in the news in July which is a rareity. NBA is a business and Lebron creating business.

No reason not to stretch it out!!! I think he stays in Cleveland while Wade surprises everyone by going to chicago to be close to his kids where he will be joined by Boozer.

Jazz sign and trade Boozer with Ak-47 to Bulls for Taj Gibson and Deng. Good for both teams but Jazz definitely regress by losing AK-47 defense and play making ability. Boozer for Deng about a wash

This whole circus is certainly pathetic. When I heard the Clippers put out a statement about it being an "honor to have been selected to meet with LeBron's team," I just about puked. LeBron and Bosh are pathetic. Always have been, always will be. They're in the Carmelo Anthony "I would stop being a Jazz fan if they were on my team" category. Thankfully, they're all so pitifully egomaniacal that they'd never even consider playing in Salt Lake.

Its over the top, but be honest, if the Jazz had a chance to get lebron, we would be incensed if the Jazz DIDN'T kiss lebrons a**. I don't mind all the hype, summer is slow sports wise, no football, no basketball, only baseball (awful).

Agreed. I think I wouldn't enjoy Jazz basketball the same if they go the egomaniac-star avenue...
Anyway I (reluctantly) concede it might be I'm a little tiny bit old fashioned in excess... I'm not even sure I completely like Deron Williams sometimes!

Hey, men need tabloids too. How else are we going to drown away our sorrows by immersing ourselves in a reality other than that of our mundane lives?

Oh yeah. Heroin.

Yes, the hard cap is coming... I hope to God... and that is why teams are sacrificing all of their payroll flexibility for the fore-coming future- because it will disappear anyway. May as well shell out now, as it will likely be the last chance to spend without a conscience.

Guaranteed contracts are complete bollocks as well; I would sooner see scrub ball permanently than see Shaq pull down $20M for 14 points and 7 rebounds in 45 games over a full season.

It would seem only appropriate that NBA fans have representation at negotiations between labor and ownership, as it is our funding which creates the market in its entirety. Unfortunately, few realize realize the power in the intention behind the money they spend.

Lebron James is a bad role model for kids. He thinks he's above the game. He doesn't show respect to the sport, or it's fans. He doesn't sign autographs ("I've seen him pass little children under 5 (who were wearing his jersey) without even acknowledging their existence.

He's just a cocky ball hogging show off. I hope he never wins a title.

The hard cap will mean even MORE of this junk. Teams won't be as able to outbid each other financially, so they'll have to sell free agents on other reasons to sign with them...that means more circus sideshows.

I understand what you're thinking because players will bolt to teams with space, basically greed first.. but when you look at the NFL you don't have players holding teams hostage like this in a "sign and trade me" situation or sign me for more $$$ situation.

The current system is awesome for the NFL..and teams like New Orleans Saints go to the superbowl because the league is set up fairly.. I don't see the NBA hornets or the Utah Jazz competing for the NBA title when the lakers are spending near double our payroll. If a hard cap was in place..teams still could throw $$$$$ up to the salary cap level all they want but they wouldn't be able to sign other players..

Basically it would make the league fair..wesley matthews would go to the highest bidder which is what it should be set up anyway. It rewards good GM's and punishes teams that overspend. But I totally understand what you're saying..especially since basketball is more a individual sport but still..would be nice to make the league more fair than it is now.

Oh, I don't disagree with that. I just meant that a hard cap isn't going to get rid of this ridiculous falling all over each other to court a free agent. In all likelihood the rich teams will just spend more on their pitches, since there won't be a cap on those :-?

Oh true that's a good point loserx, yeah players like Bosh/wade/lebron and company could easily still be a clown act..cause all drama with cameras and billboards and junk. So I agree with you there, and that's a good point to raise that even with a hard cap you can still have children squeezing every dollar they can bouncing a rubber ball.

Some days when I read about "where lebron going?" articles and such.. sometimes I wish there would be a massive lockout - makes me ill the amount of money these guys are asking for.

Of course they will squeeze every penny they can... and then they will go public about being all about winning championships... That's pretty Pathetic, because in fact they're the ones precluding their teams to compete at the best level in the first place!

That's why sometimes I don't completely likes Deron Williams... he's in a team very close to be a real contender, but of course he wouldn't let go a couple millions here and there to get the rings!

This "all about winning titles" PS is amazing. These dudes stand out there in front of a camera or a mic and just plainly lie to everybody wishing to hear them! They're even worst than Latrell Sprewell, (whose only sin was to use extremely stupid wording after all).

That's what "leadership" is about this days in the NBA... to show the other players how to get all the money I can get, while avoiding almost everybody else to make a couple more bones, or to take a little bit of sport glory with a real run for a championship... of course then all I have to do is to put a serious face in front of a camera and say all the political correct things, and Alas!... I'm good again!!

I actually think Lebron has handle this situation well compared to Wade and Bosh.

That's what I thought as well until I read that he's going to be announcing his decision during a one-hour special airing on ESPN Thursday night.

The mind boggles.
