Portland better look out next year!

Post#1 » by Farsider322 » Sun Jul 11, 2010 5:35 am

What comes around goes around. Nicolas Batum and Greg Odgen's contracts are up next year. I hope the Jazz pay them back with some offers they have to match.

If they signed full MLE offers with the Jazz Portland would (and could easily) match both, and probably thank Utah. So yeah.
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

I don't think you guys will have the capspace to sign them to very much. Even if you do, they're both RFA's if neither get an extension (which at least Batum will). Hopefully the Blazers don't overpay for Oden just in case he gets injured again and hopefully Oden doesn't accept a lower than what he's worth contract just because of the threat of him getting injured. I'd like Oden to not accept any extension, come back, prove he can be healthy for 82 games and then sign a max contract, or, if he gets injured just take whatever the Blazers give him.

We should have in the neighborhood of 20 million. I could see us giving Oden quite the payday, but your right - when you have an owner like Paul Allen they'll match anything.

Batum isn't a FA next year, he's only up for an extension. He just finished his 2nd year. Bayless, Oden and Rudy will all be FAs next year.

I really don't get why Utah fans are mad at Portland. You should be mad at your front office, because they seem incapable of re-signing their own guys. Milsap, Boozer, Korver and now Mathews. All signed with other teams. Why couldn't Utah just get it done? Why take it out on Portland?

And when you guys can't even sign your own guys, I don't know why anyone should think you'll be able to sign Portland's. But when Orlando or New Jersey does it, I guess you can cheer.

I don't care who you steal off our roster as long as you don't touch Joel Przybilla. You can't have the Vanilla Gorilla.

I'd be happy with an Oden for Matthews swap :D

I'll pass. Oden is a bust and breaks like glass. Karma's a bitch and I'm sure their team will break like glass this year too.

I guess after stealing Boozer from a blind man, you'd know about that.

Are you referring to his physical blindness or his blindness to the illegal nature of the deal he claimed to have in place?

And Bayless and Rudy also finished his 2nd year as well. Wouldn't that put them in the same category as Batum since they were all rookies together. I would also would have added Oden to the list since he was rookies with them as well, but he already got paid one year while he sat out a year. ;)

Odgen? I remember the city of Ogden when passing through Utah, so I suppose your muscle memory on the keyboard wants to say it. :p

As mentioned earlier, Batum's contract will still be in effect after next season, but Oden is another issue. If he as another injury prone season and Utah makes him a big offer, believe me I think Portland will pass and let you guys have him.

Anyway, if your team would have taken care of business first, this wouldn't have happened and could have gotten both Millsap and Matthews cheaper as well. By next week, I do expect your team to match the offer and hurt your team's salary cap. ;)

It's almost as if Portland has become Utah's official contract negotiator. :D

 Is that how you spin it, the blind man deserved to be betrayed because he is a criminal? The blind man didn't do anything illegal or in violation of the CBA. He recorded every discussion with Boozer so that he could prove he played according to the rules. The NBA investigated the matter and the recorded conversations proved Boozer and the Cavs had no agreement. Gordon Gund did Boozer a favor at Boozer's request. Boozer said if the Cavs didn't exercise their option that he would be loyal to Gordon Gund and the Cavs.

I'm not saying the Jazz did anything wrong but if you are innocent, tell the truth.

I like your idea. The Jazz should offer Oden a toxic MLE contract next year. That will teach the Blazers to watch out who they F with.

First, it's an insult to him to make his blindness an issue. They generally don't like to be known as "that poor, poor blind man."

Second, you just described the illegal quid pro quo pretty well.

It was NOT illegal according to the NBA and no laws were broken. The only thing that occurred was a misunderstanding between men on the definition of honor and loyalty. Boozer asked Gund for a favor so that he could provide security for his family. Gund did Boozer the favor he requested. And, presumably, Boozer showed Gund his loyalty.

The fact that the NBA didn't call out LeBron's team on it's illegality doesn't make their act any less illegal.

I don't give a crap about the Cavs. They were tanking to get Lebron anyway, and they were dealing illegally with Boozer, so they got what they deserved. Portland will suffer years of salary issues with the Matthews deal though.

With how much the Blazers were willing to offer Mathews, there's probably no amount of money you could offer Oden that the Blazers wouldn't match outright. Paul Allen clearly doesn't care about overpaying players.

Whatever, just let them keep on being the dirt bags that they are and keep putting up dissapointing results. I hope we don't sign Matthews and take Roy when his contract is up as payback.
