If Al Jeff signs is Matthews not matched?

not signed because of the large Lux Tax hit? I come in peace guys, not trying to stir anything up as I know there has been some bad blood between POR and Utah fans, I think the Al Jeff move is a good one for you. What's the thought on whether Wes will be matched or you let him go - assuming Al Jeff comes your way. Thanks in advance

I don't think that this has a huge impact on whether we sign him or not. Two different players that play different roles on the team.

The dollars ahve a huge impact though.
I don't think we match. Enjoy Matthews, I loved his one season here.

The Jazz will still have the ability to match and I think the jazz have planned on paying the tax this year. Before last year they said that they where willing to pay the tax for 1-2 years and that decisoin was made when they signed Memo and Booz with AK contract. I think they would concider picking up Al Jeffereson as keeping booz.

Yeah I can't see us matching wes. we are bringing in a 13 million dollar man this already puts us in luxury tax, i just dont see us adding 6 million more well essentially 12 million more when you include the tax not to mention the near 4 million signing bonus. Is wesley worth nearly 16 million dollars this year? HELL TO THE NO.

It's the money factor, I believe Al Jeff would put Utah into the Lux tax (is that correct?) assuming the trade is the TPE and future picks, that means every dollar spent on Wes matthews is double given the Lux tax penalty - so nearly 6 mil extra (above his salary) in first year alone is what Wes would cost - any chance your ownership will be willing to do that?

We won't know anything until Sunday. The Jazz organization always plays everything so close to the vest that usually the fans are completely taken back by the trades or moves. Also the Jazz do not want to give Portland any more time than required just in case you want to start looking at other free agents.
Personally I don't think I would be willing to pay Mathews what Portland offered him. That contract is just crazy for a second year player. He was a great player but $7 mill a year is way over paying.

If we bring in Jefferson, we will have to pay 50 mil between Sap/Jefferson/Okur/Dwill alone next season. I don't see any scenario in which Greg Miller signs on adding an additional 5/6 mil onto that for Wes

With Jefferson coming in I sure hope AK is going to give the Utah Jazz that hometown discount he talked about last year.

I honestly don't really care as long as we get some outside shooting.

Unless CJ is getting traded too, don't expect Mathews back.
I can't see Utah going 8mil into the Tax this year.

Jazz would have to pay 15 million(9.5 mil in salary, 5.7 in tax) to Wes Matthews alone this season...no thanks.

LOL...Who'd have thought that Wes Matthews would be in a position to cost us more than Boozer in the upcoming season?
NBA is caaraaaaazzaaayyy.

it is crazy, ridiculous contracts being given out yet owners complain about the CBA and how bad it is, they are their own worst enemy.

Has anyone heard whether or not Utah is sending any players / salary back to Minnesota in a separate trade?
I imagine its unlikely considering Utah is already short bodies.
Yet, if they did send salary to Minnesota they could have enough room to sign Mathews, too.

The whole appeal of the deal to Minny was no getting any salray in return so I highly doubt we will be sending anyone away to them. It's possible that we could be making a seperate move to try and re-sign Matthews but I doubt it, I don't think the Jazz are a big fan of the Matthews deal regardless of if they could afford it or not.

I think the Al Jefferson move for Utah is a great one. Portland radio has speculated that aquiring Matthews hopefully sets up a bigger trade. Either way, Jefferson is going to do well under Sloan.

Haha awesome. Now if they just knew that New Orleans was looking to shred salary and not take on a 2nd year player for $6.8m for 5 years.

I want you to prove that statement...I don't think you can. Where did you "hear" it?
keep in mind that some random nutjob fan does not equal "Portland"
