Big Al Question

Hey Jazz fans I was wondering something. Since he's returned from injury, has Al Jefferson been able to get back in to pre-injury shape? The reason I asked was because I remember seeing him look very heavy when he came back as opposed to the way he looked before. Thanks in advance.

Uhhh, he hasn't even talked to our media yet, let alone played or practiced.

Big Al played all season last year without missing a game to injury. so I think he is recovered. He is also reportedly working out with some big names this offseason looking to have a career season next season. This was before he knew he would be traded...

The injury happened 08-09 (February 2009).
His 09-10 season went fairly well.

I understand he was more productive after the all star break than he was before it. Which makes sense if you're coming back from a ACL tear. Love was also taking more possesions at that point, and the overlap of their skills probably factors into his lower output last season.

I just hope he is still willing to get up and contest shots. I don't want another glued-to-the-floor power forward.

All the reports I heard were that he didn't have a very good summer last year because of the injury and came into camp overweight and tried to work it off during the season which rarely works, especially for big guys.

So it's hard to say.

His best month of the year last year was March when he averaged 19/10/2 on 54% from the field and was shooting 4 free-throws per game.

However is post all-star numbers are down almost across the board, but that includes his minutes in which he took almost a 4 minute drop in floor time.

My guess is this year he comes into camp in much better shape with renewed motivation, and a coach who won't play him if he isn't fit.

Looks okay here, definitely not as heavy as he was last season.

FWIW, here's his (I think anyway) first comments about being a member of the Jazz. Seems happy enough, even though it's the standard athlete talk. I can't wait to see how he does in the system, and if/how Sloan adjusts the system a bit to fit his skill set (which he damn well better do).

I am sure he came into town to do the presser today, and will go back home over the weekend.

My guess is the Jazz are going to try to get him to work out with Deron Williams for a while over the summer so they can feel each other out a little bit.

Deron is still resting his wrist it sounds like but by mid August I imagine he'll be back in the gym working out with other players.
