Jazz have a good bench too

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Thu Jul 15, 2010 5:21 am

Assuming Bell starts but plays only 20 min per game and Miles plays SF and AK-47 backs up both forward postions and Memo comes off then bench and Fess is resigned;

Jazz bench better than some teams starting lineups:

PG Price
SG Hayward
C Fess
PF Memo
SF Ak-47

The Jazz have toughness and veteran experience which were clearly lacking.

I still think backup PG is a position we still need to address. Some of these other western teams have pretty good backups: Goran Dragic, Ty Lawson, Jerryd Bayless, Rodrigue Beabouis, etc... Sorry but Price doesn't cut it

Between Price and Gaines, I might consider our 1 position the most secure since we are three deep.

Price isn't ideal, but he brings energy and competitiveness to the team. Maynor was looking like the offensive general we needed, but money is money. I'd rather spend on a backup big personally, as much as I hate seeing Price take the last shot of three quarters while Deron rests.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Agreed. You can't relegate 10 minutes of playmaking ability per game if you want to win the West. Besides, you don't want to exhaust or maximize injury risks to your AllStar PG; there's nights when Williams need some rest, and coaching staff cannot handle it to him. It has to stop.
That's why I believe House or Brown are good options for the Jazz if available and willing to take 2+M/3 years.

I Like price.
He is tough as nails and brings a swagger.
I don't mind him one bit.

I think Ronnie Price is exactly the guy you want as your third-string PG. He's full of energy and can give you a different look when you need it. He's passable as the primary back-up, but he's obviously no Maynor.

Well the thing I most like about Price is that what he brings actually helps us in those regards, because he's strength is defense, so he can come in a D up on those guys you mentioned better than anyother candidate we could have. The thing is, what he gives us on energy and defense he gives up directing the offense, and that's where AK and Hayward come in. If either of them are on court at the same time as Price, they should direct traffic (even if the don't bring the ball up, but take it a the top of the key) and then Price can fit into the offense as a scorer and not distributor.

As for 3rd string PG I would like us to consider Arroyo. He does have PG skills and knows the system and players (AK, Bell, Memo). He's also a vet and has tons of experience. He has matured and won't be that big headed idiot he once was (but thatnks to that we did get DWill yay!!) and won't mind being 3er string. The thing is, if he's number is called, he'll be much better for our team/system that a guy like Gaines for example. And he can be had for the vet min.

Is anyone else starting to worry about AK? With Hayward and Bell moving in i'm hoping he doesn't lose his swagger that he had this past year. The main thing that Kirilenko needs is a feeling of importance in our lineup. I'm curious to see what kind of minutes he gets this upcoming year. It'd be really great to see Kirilenko build off of what he did last season.

I think having both AK and Hayward will negate the Price problem. For some reason I see Hayward and Kirilenko being best friends this season.

I think that'd be pretty cool to see AK running the point with Hayward as our go to guy.

I see both Memo and AK47 as starters this season to be honest.

Memo won't even play at the beginning of the season due to his injury. AK will start, CJ will run with the 2nd team.

C-AJ
PF-Sap
SF-AK
SG-Bell
PG-Dwill

2nd
C-Memo(when healthy), Fess
PF-AJ
SF-CJ
SG-Hayward
PG-RP

Once Memo is back, I'd prefer a starting lineup of:

Deron
Miles
AK47
Jefferson
Okur

That would be a big, lengthy, and pretty athletic group. You'd still have Hawyard, Bell, and Millsap off the bench.

The biggest thing for our bench will be to let AK and Hayward run the offense more. Price is a good energy guy but he can't run the offense very well. It would really help AK and Hayward to run the offense through them a lot this season when they come off the bench. If you do that then you don't need to upgrade your backup PG.

My biggest concern for our bench is just how effective AK and Hayward will be, heck even Fes and Okur are question marks. It would really be nice to bring in someone else who is going to be solid for you no matter what (Brewer) but if we don't have the money for it then there isn't much that we can do for now.

It's going to be really interesting to see the different playing dynamics our bench has compared to our starters. Our bench is pure scrape, hustle and energy while our starters are going to be all business and very methodical. We have two entirely different teams which just goes to show how versatile this team is/can be.

We are very dangerous.

I see a three man rotation of Memo, Sap and AJ and another three man rotation of Raja, CJ and AK. Sprinkle in some Fes and Price, maybe we go after another wing or backup pg, but I cant see Hayward playing unless he puts some serious work in over the off-season and having a near perfect pre-season.

I'm sure we give Hayward some minutes. He was teh #9 pick in the draft after all.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Yeah, Hayward will definitely get some run. He's polished and efficient, and Sloan's awful fond of those qualities.

Either he or Evans will get minutes, and maybe both. I think the brass are pretty high on both of these guys.

Are you guys (when fully healthy) going to start Al at center? I would think he and Memo would work well together offensively
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.
