Crazy Idea?

When I watch film on Jefferson, there have been several times that I think I'm looking at Milsap--only he's taller. Is now the time with Milsap having value that we trade him for a shot-blocking center and move AJ to the power forward spot. Would Orlando do a Gortat for Milsap swap? Would this make us a better or a worse team overall? Is there another center out there who would be a better move? Or are we better off keeping the Milsap we all know and love but somehow just doesn't seem to have the all-star potential of the bigger Jefferson?

Millsap/Jefferson front line is better than a Jefferson/Gortat line.

jefferson failed at C in minesota, what makes you think he will succeed in utah. he is not a C, he is a PF.

He didn't fail at center.

he "failed at C" because his team failed. he still put up a respectable PER of 20 at the C position last season on one of the worst teams in the association

2009-10
PF: 16.3ppg 8.5rpg 1.6apg 1.6bpg (36 games/31mpg)
C: 17.8ppg 9.9rpg 2apg 1bpg (40 games/33mpg)

2008-09
PF: 20.9ppg 10rpg 1.6apg 1.7bpg (9 games/35mpg)
C: 23.6ppg 11.2rpg 1.6apg 1.7bpg (41 games/37mpg)

He didn't fail at center.

It's like saying Brook Lopez failed at center.

We played Boozer and Millsap in the same time, I have no problems with Millsap-AJ stretches.

I would rather go after the Vanilla Gorilla, Joel Przybilla, depending on his recovery from his injuries. He seems like a more athletic version of Greg Ostertag which would fit nicely with the current team, and which would closely resemble the 97-98 Jazz: dominant PG and PF, defensive big center, defensive wing in Russell, spot up shooter amongst other valuable things in Horny, and hardworking role players. If you look at the Jazz current roster they are getting close to matching the Jazz roster of old that took them to the promise land. I think Prsybilla would be a perfect fit. Don't know what it would take to get him. I would hate to give up Miilsap, maybe get a package for AK, perhaps involve a third team. If I say so myself, Portland owes us something, they've been tampering with our roster and salary for the past couple years. Besides, they have three centers the last time I checked. I would think they'd keep Camby for his veteran status to teach Greg Oden a thing or two, but maybe it's the other way around. Heck, I'd take Camby for that matter.

You can't get equal value for Millsap. Jefferson has EXCELLENT footwork and good speed against centers, but that quickness advantage begins to be lost against PFs, just look at his PF/C splits. Millsap averaged 18ppg as a bench player in the playoffs, and two seasons again when he started for 38 games he averaged 16ppg 10.3apg and 2.4apg 1.24spg .97bpg as a starter in 34.4mpg. If Millsap can match that production alongside of Jefferson, what more can you ask for?

Why are people so obsessed with Gortat?

Jefferson/Okur/Millsap rotation is potentially great for Utah...... Especially with Millsap developing his midrange game....... And defensively, just by being longer Jefferson is already going to improve the Jazz in that area.......

Throw in AK on the wings providing weakside shot-blocking and I'm perfectly content.......

I can't wait for the season to start.......

I agree. I don't know why so much love for Gortat.... but I am also extremely pumped for the season to start.

Even crazier? Trade AJ to the kings for salary + demarcus cousins. He's a better fit a C and way better at defense. Or Trade AJ in a sign and trade for a real defensive center, noah maybe if the bulls suck it next year.

I really wanted the Jazz to draft Cousins, but I wouldn't trade AJ for him. Cousins hasn't proved anything yet in this league.

If you get rid of Millsap you wont be able to run the pick n roll with AJ and D Will. Thats when he is most effective.

Sure, he hasn't. But I would bet a lot of money he ends up being more valuable than al jefferson. I think its worth the risk, especially given AJ is more duplicative of Millsap's role (scoring PF) than cousins (potentially dominant defender). I saw cousins summer league games, and he's the real deal.

Really? When I see Jefferson, I see deliberate, polished, planned post moves. In contrast, Millsap scores off of busted plays and improv. When he gets the ball, he just kinda wills it into the basket without any premeditation at all. Effort and toughness are his primary offensive tools. Thankfully, Paul showed off some footwork and a jump shot in the playoffs last year, so I really hope he can find a spot in our execution offense better than the garbage man.

I would like Gortat as a backup C, but I think Millsap is the better player with a better contract (at least after we swallowed his first year). Utah needs Gortat's skill set more than Millsap's, so I see where you are coming from, but I think we'll hold onto Paul in this case (especially since he's a fan favorite and fits the hard work personality we want to keep in Utah). We'll try to add a shot blocking big from one of the free agents first.

I think it's insane to deal a 25 year-old post monster, entering his prime, because a guy played well in summer league. Moot point anyway, since this would never be considered by either time.

It's clearly nothing the FO would really consider, and it's not like I'm pounding on KOC's door to make this happen. I just think cousins is exactly what we need. Maybe I drank too much summer league kool-aid, we'll see.

The real question is how much are we willing to spend. We've committed 68 mil to next year, 5th highest in the league I think (http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm). It will be interesting to see what the Miller's are willing to push it too.
