I know we have AK's contract come off the books, that should give us quite a bit off cap room, but how much?? Would it be enough to make a run at say, Carmelo? I know he gets a lot of flack around here, but the fact is he would make us instant title contenders. He has also matured a lot, and if anything, the way he handled losing to us last year showed quite a bit a humbleness and maturity from his part.

If we can make a solid playoff run this year (WCF), maybe DWill could talk him into signing here with us. The thing would be if we'd have enough to offer a max contract. Okur would become an expiring contract next year so maybe we could dump him to teams looking to clear space for 2012 were they would then release him and he could return?

P.S. That would be great for "Melo's people of Utah". LOL

Even with AK expiring, i think we can only offer like 8-10 mil next offseason unless we shed some more salary (which would probably require assets). I also don't think Melo will sign an extension, considering how uncertain the next CBA is. Even then, I don't think he would consider Utah seriously.

We could make a run at maybe horford or noah, but I don't think we can get a superstar without shipping out some serious assets.

The Jazz already have 50+ committed in salaries for next year, so they won't be able to add a max contract and fill out the roster with out going way over the luxury tax.

But we should be able to add some good mid level guys that could really fill out our roster.

I hope we go the retain AK/add a good role player route. If we sign Carmelo Anthony, I will thank the Utah Jazz for some good memories and wave goodbye.

My head in the clouds scenario is coming up with enough money to sign Horrford, but again we would go deep into the lux tax. We can definitely add some players, perhaps a 6th man and address the backup pg role once and for all.

The Jazz would go into the tax deep if it meant winning deep in the playoffs. The issue is they won't be able to get those guys under the current system. Next off season will be a CBA negotiation season for at least until mid July. A lot determines what happens with that.

i hate Melo but i would be a very happy jazz fan if signed here.

50M committed to Deron, Big Al, Memo, Millsap, Raja and Hayward. Plus a 3.7M option on CJ. If the current cap holds, the Jazz have about 4M to spend. So no, the Jazz won't be a huge player next offseason.

True, the Jazz need to trade AK now if they went another big time player. With Paul and Melo looking to move, why not try to acquire them? We do offer a great shot at that title they want.

We need to get rid of Memo, and spend our money somewhere else.

I would look to move Memo IF we could move to get some big FA next offseason. And I would move him say, in a draft day trade, etc. especially if he would then be waived and we can get him back at a cheaper deal. I wouldn't however move him this season as with Al he'll be more valuable IMO.

I honestly think if we make enough noise this postseason (assuming we get there ofcourse) maybe DWill could get Anthony's attention. I recall he mentioned how he would score a lot easier in the Jazz offense last year in the playoffs, so it's not so out of the question.

If not, then we should look at PGs. So... what PGs are FAs next season that could work as backups to DWill?

I'm pretty sure Melo to Utah is pretty much out of the question.

Probably also because we already are contenders. Why would we want to ruin a good thing with an attitude in the locker room. That would probably make us worse. Look at Denver

The problem with denver isn't melo. It was the rest of the team giving up, and awful coaching by Adrian Dantley (and a terrible performance by all non-melo players, namely chauncey / nene).

Also, I would be frustrated if the refs called all those offensive fouls too. Try to be a objective here, the refs went a little overboard calling all those charges, and that is clearly frustrating. He still played hard on both ends of the court, so I don't know what else you can ask for (he's not gonna suddenly develop LBJ passing skills and orchestrate their whole offense).

Melo honestly isn't that bad. What a DUI is what you're pissed about? Ask Al Jefferson how his went. Melo grew up in baltimore, of course there's gonna be a couple of incidents. He would be much better here in Utah too because we would be winning (a lot) and he would have a coach that brings out the best in his teammates.

We'll never get him, but to say that you wouldn't take him, that's just crazy. These alleged "locker room" problems are purely speculative.

We're not really a contender now, but melo would definitely make us one.

Again, what is this "he grew up in Baltimore, so of course there's issues" load of **** you're trying to sell? I'ved lived here my entire life, and I am qualified to tell you that what you're saying is ridiculous. There's a lot of NBA players from much, much worse places that aren't bitchy little punks like Carmelo.
