What do you think about Mike James playing for Utah? He took a buyout and hopes to play for the Utah Jazz. This is a wierd offseason..... players are asking to come to Utah. I actually think he would be a good addition.

No way...I hated his selfish game when he still actually had it, now there would be no point.

That's bizarre. This is an awful fit for him, considering he's a chucker and not much of a team guy. I'd probably still take my chances with Price, because he at least knows hhis role, even though James may have an edge on actual basketball talent.

Hasn't shot in the .400+ region in 5 years? Had one good year for the Raptors in 2005-06, but THAT'S IT. I'll pass on him.

He's probably the worst player who played in the NBA last season, even worse than AMMO.

To be honest, I think the debate is not him vs. Price, it's Mike James vs. Sundiatta Gaines, and in that, I wholehartedly chose Mike James WAY OVER Gaines. He's a vet, is a hard competitor and good defender. Also, he says he "admires" our organization which means he knows how things are done overhere and that he'd have to follow Sloan's rule over anything else. I'd offer him a two year deal 4.5 M deal with no. 2 being a team option or something like that.
Our backup PG position would be a LOT better with James and Price than with Price and Gaines.

I would take James over Gaines, but thats it. The thing is, Im just happy there are players that actually want to BE here. Deron Williams has done a great job transforming the Utah Jazz into a team that players want to play for....

Seriously, whens the last time a player went out to someone in the media and specifically stated that they WANTED to come play in Utah?
Even if he's the worst player in the NBA right now, it's an odd feeling.

Like you guys are saying, James VS Gaines, James wins. I think its admirable that he said he admires our organization, and it makes me ecstatic to think that players actually want to be here! Jazz are contenders man, I don't care what any one says.

As long as we just use him as instant offense off the bench.

James >>>>>>> Gaines and provides veteran experience off the bench. I dont see why not as long as he is signed to a very cheap contract. I also think James is a better PG than Price as well.

Does he make free throws? Oh he does!

I like him personally. I think putting him on a good team would make him all that more valuable. Also I think that the vet minimum is enough to get him.

I think it's really more a question of who would we want more-
James or:
Roger Mason Jr
Shannon Brown
Keith Bogans
Joey Graham
Shannon Brown appears to have narrowed his search to NY and LA
Roger Mason Jr played well for the Spurs and they have shown zero interest in bringing him back, and if the Spurs don't want you back then I doubt the Jazz will. Whatever turned the Spurs off to Roger would most likely turn the Jazz off as well.
Haven't heard anything about Bogans and Graham is a coin flip.
Ultimately I'd rather put whatever money we would've put toward James toward a shot blocker. Even if its just a Mickey Moore type player.

Wow.. I have to say I'm pretty stunned about the raction to this guy. He is a really, really good defender who has consistently knocked down the long ball and been able to score. Do you guys not remember the "Bulldog Defense" credited to Mike James and Lindsay Hunter that played a role in the Pistons winning their '04 title? I mean next to Rasheed Wallace arriving, their defense and the improvement it brought to the bench play was a key factor in turning their season around heading into the playoffs and to the title. He is an ABSOLUTE upgrade over Price! I'd sign him in a heartbeat. I don't get it....

Wait what?
With Al, Okur and Fes, we really don't have that much need for a center as much as we do of a decent backup PG, and this one is basically offering himself to us. Like said before, he is just what we need (at least the best available option at this point IMO). A solid capable vet, is a hardnosed type player and a good defender. With him and Price, we will be set at PG. We can't pass that up for a "Mikky Moore type player" when our big rotation already has Millsap, Al, AK, Memo (when he returns) and Fes. Hell, look at it $$$ wise. Between Millsap, Al, AK and Memo we have well over 40 Mil commited. Why would we look to spend more at those positions???

Career Statistical Comparison
Ronnie Price: 11 MPG, 39.9 FG%, 30.9% 3PT%, 71.8 FT%, 1.1 REB, 1.4 AST, 0.7 TO, 0.6 STL, 0.1 BLK, 3.6 PPG
Mike James: 25 MPG, 42.0 FG%, 37.8 3PT%, 80.3 FT%, 2.3 REB, 3.6 AST, 1.6 TO, 0.8 STL, 0.1 BLK, 10.5 PPG
Now, obviously if you factor in the disparity in minutes, some of those things even out (RPG, APG) slightly, but James still has a better Assist to Turnover Ratio, CONSISTENTLY shoots better across the board by a wide margin and has a lot more experience playing big minutes. Additionally he brings the same, if not better defense than Ronnie and you don't lose any size as the two are virtually identical. I agree that if we ever signed him, Price would initially retain his back-up spot...but I don't think that would end up being the case by season's end. SIGN THIS GUY!
