How bad is Okur hurt?

Post#1 » by Sauce Boss » Sun Aug 15, 2010 5:54 am

I am not really a Jazz fan (Bucks fan) but was discussing the Jazz with one of my friends today and were discussing Okur's bad achilles injury he had and how it effects your roster. Honestly neither of us really knew how long he'd be out or if he will be able to play this year as the last update I can find on the internet was from May saying he should be back close to the opener but I've heard conflicting reports saying he could be out for quite some time. Wondering if any of you Jazz faithful that are much closer to Utah can clear the air for us if Okur is going to be suited up for you guys and ready to play at 100% anytime in the near future. Thanks!

He said some weeks back, that he'll be ready for the opening game......

Considering that he was never really athletic, and didn't rely on athleticism to get his points, the injury shouldn't really affect his game....... He's mostly a spot-up shooter anyway.......

He'll porbably start the season coming off the bench, after that it will depend on how the Jefferson/Millsap frontcourt is working out......

Last I heard he was playing golf a lot and said he felt good - not sure how game ready that is but..

Probably will miss the veterans camp and should be good to go near the start of the season but that's just a guess.

Personally I think he will miss the first week or two of the season. Even if he is completely healthy.

Golf isn't exactly basketball, but you can't do it on an ailing limb, so that's definitely good to hear, especially with basketball still more than 2 months away,

I might be overly pessimistic, but, I don't expect him back before Christmas.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I'm the same way. I don't think he'll put up starting minutes until after the all-star game.

But I'm not basing that on any kind of news report. Just a hunch.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

He will be probably the worst defender in the league post-injury though.

No he won't...... Like I said he was never quick, and he did an alright job defending the post prior to his injury.......

He'll probably be worse for a while while he gets back into playing shape, but Boozer is still going to be a worse defender than Okur......

There was a time when achilles injuries were career-ending. Im worried about his ability to recover from it, and also about his lack of conditioning as you most certainly cannot do much of any cardio while rehabbing that type of injury.

He definitely won't be driving to the basket as much as he did although it wasnt that much anyway.

if it's of interest i had my surgery to repair my torn achilles the day before okur injured his. at this point (4 mos later) there's no problem running or 2-footed jumping, but i still continue to have problems with balance and getting lift off my heel... sure okur is doing more advanced rehab than me tho and i would think before the season starts is realistic.

With the mesmerizing slow-motion play that Okur employs, golf is closer to basketball than it might seem  .
