Wiretap: Deron Next to Ask for Trade?

Post#1 » by The59Sound » Thu Sep 2, 2010 10:27 pm

I hesitate to even post this, but I wanted to give everyone chance to roll their eyes as I did.

Following free agency, this summer has been dominated by trade rumors involving Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony.

While discussing Anthony on Thursday, ESPN.com's Marc Stein wrote a quick paragraph on Jazz point guard Deron Williams.

"I have a feeling he's next for all these trade stories," a Western Conference official said of Williams.

First of all, I agree this is becoming a bad trend. But to say Deron is on the brink of demanding a trade is ridiculous. While New Orleans and Denver were both teams with static rosters sliding into oblivion, the Jazz just reloaded with two players Deron has expressed a great deal of excitement about. Add to that the fact that, while Deron certainly has an ego and a let's-win-now mentality, his character is not as fluid as that of Anthony's and Paul's. What I mean by that is: his "get me the hell out of Dodge" threshold is a lot higher than theirs.

Marc Stein just throwing darts with his eyes closed, as usual.

Marc Stein is guessing, I'm guessing, we are all just guessing.

We'll cross this bridge if/when we get there. Lets just get this season started.

So an "anonymous western conference official" has "a feeling"? This is not even close to a news story, it's missing key details like what that western conference official's favourite sandwich is.

I just worry that RealGM is now going to blow this way out of proportion and we'll have to hear about it every day until Deron either re-signs or leaves.

remember...Mark Stein is basically in bed with Mark Cuban. This is Cuban's way of legally tampering. Deron is a Dallas HS product and Kidd is on his last legs. Its not too hard to see where this "story" comes from.

Nice point! The article itself is begging for Derons attention. The article claims that "like Carmelo and Paul" Deron will be next to ask for a trade. Both Denver and New Orleans have come out said neither Carmelo nor Paul asked for a trade. The unnamed western conference official said "I have a feeling he's next for all these trade stories," and that means he is going to ask for a trade?! More like someone is trying to stir the pot in hopes of getting into Derons head. Just plain stupid article and writer. Insulting really. I wouldn't be surprised if the "Western Conference official" was from Portland, another sad attempt to weaken the Jazz.

If I was you I would be worried about Isiah coming as GM of my team instead of constantly chasing all these players and having your heart broken all the time. The Knicks will be competing with the Clippers for the lottery "championship" for another decade.

Let's just consolidate the nba into a majors/minors format. 15 or 16 teams with 'stars that want to win now' and the rest are the minors. Seriously, maybe only 8 teams. It'd be a season long all star game. Then who would the stars blame for not winning a championship? Oh wait... the refs and coaches. Nevermind.

It must suck constantly having to hope someday your team can get players instead of actually having them.

I'm chalking this up to media BS but if somehow this really happened I would be pissed. Al would be left in the cold again. I am REALLY looking forward to seeing him ball with the Jazz this year. Deron leaving would wreck that.

I could see it. The Jazz are contenders but they certainly arent going to get out of the west in the next couple of years as long as Kobe and pau are still playing. Even if they did claw their way to the finals...there is no way they can beat the Heat/magic/celtics so I was Deron, I would want out as well. No surprise

If they can get that far they can beat those teams. The King is the Lakers, beat them and anything is possible.

I think it is because it has been a slow week in the NBA. People are just digging for story.

Would you do Fesenko and the right to swap second-rounders for Joe Johnson?

I think you need to watch a few more basketball games, this is one of the more unintelligent posts I have seen in a while. Smith+Teague is nowhere near good value for Williams (and Smith is very redundant with AK and Jefferson) and Crawford + a future second is bad value for Millsap (a young power forward capable of averaging 15 and 10).

Stein publishing this speculation is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The "official" doesn't actually speculate that Deron will demand a trade, just that he'll be next "for all these trade stories".

Seriously, the quote this all started from just said Deron Williams will be the next one the media "speculates about," certainly not that deron will be the next to demand a trade. There is nothing at all to substantiate those rumors until then. Self-fulfilling prophecy indeed.
