I think its a terrible choice for BYU to go Independant. With the way the BCS is constructed, the voters would never put them in the Title game.

They don't vote for the National Championship game. They don't vote for BCS bowls either. They have At-Larges to select from a pool of eligible teams. BYU only has a 1 or 2 guarantee. Below that they need a bowl to want them. They do have appeal for a bowl, especially Fiesta, but they would need to hurdle other teams from conferences who control the BCS bowl people are controlled by. They won't deny a third ranked team, but an undefeated BYU vs a undefeated Clemson or Iowa State or Connecticut won't be selected into that spot. They have to be heads and shoulders above. And if they go 1 loss and undefeated and don't get that call, it's Armed Forces bowl or the like. That isn't much worse than Vegas however.

BYU will need to be more consistent because 10-2 doesn't get a BCS bowl, probably not 11-1. On the plus side even a crappy bowl like the Armed Forces Bowl has a better payout when you aren't splitting the money with a conference.

Exactly. This is a good move by BYU, they DO have the ability to make their own deals and increase the money they have to build a program up. They won't be national player though. All these advantages for Notre Dame hasn't made them a year to year team. Sure it takes more than just those advantages, but having them should make them actual consistent players for a championship, right?

OK, 3 turnovers for the Utes, they should be up 28-0. Keep up whats working and win this.

I don't have Versus so I can't watch this game . I hate the MWC's horrible TV plan and can't wait for Utah to join the Pac-12

very entertaining, sloppy game. i have trouble believing either of these teams will live up to their pre-season hype. however their record is at the end of the season though, this game was fun to watch.

In some ways, it seems like that TV contract is responsible for the entire shakeup.

Kyle lost Paper Rock scissors, but won the game. Woooo! Getting a solid ranking is key to make a run if they happen to go undefeated. No prediction here! All Im saying is step 1: successful.

Max Hall continuing to dominate. This guy is making Leinart look like a rookie. We're already talking about him being the man in 2 years if he developes properly.

He wasn't drafted because no one likes him. He's the guy who comes to the convention, acts outrageous and obnoxious, but then everyone is like, wtf is up with that guy. Then he loses his job. **** that guy.

Good win. First games are always a toss up and playing a team with better talent and winning is good for confidence.

Despite some stupid turn overs (Shakey) I thought the team played well. Really they should have won that game by 17 points or so.

In his interviews he seems like a high character, humble guy who ''gets it''. The team has his back and he performs on the field. The coaches love him. Don't get the hate.

That would not be clever because I thought of it an I'm not clever. Plus Smithson will so much better in the future.

Both teams need to concentrate on catching the ball on special teams rather than worrying about making a play for the cameras. The Utes did what good teams do-win when you don't play your best game.
