I could be wrong but I think James Augustine signed a contract with a Europe team for one year (he looked good..too bad..)

Jamareo davidson I think signed with some team in South America..both these players can be bought out but I don't think we'll see either one.

(looking for the date when veterans camp is..and where..)

There's been contradictory reports about Thompson... I remember some of them had him going Sacramento's camp or elsewhere...

Thompson tweeted that he was going to Utah's camp. Demitris Nichols is coming huh? Interesting.. can't wait to see the preseason games with these players trying out! :)

I agree, would be nice to see someone push Gaines for the 3rd spot.. I thought a few summer camp players did well.

I hope somebody pushes Gaines right out. He really only had one remarkable moment for the Jazz last year. The rest of his time on the court was less than good.

Scheyer is a nice player, though i worry about his ability to make a move with the basketball. From what I've watched with him, he needs 3 or 4 dribbles with the ball to make a move, and takes terrible angles at the rim on the dribble attack (usually symbolic of a slow first step or incorrect dribble drive form/technique).

In the NBA, 2 dribbles from the wing is the max you're going to get, and usually you'll only get 1 dribble to get to the paint. I hope he can convert.

Judging by the invites to Scheyer and Nichols (2 known shooters), and the Jazz's known interest in Anthony Morrow early in the free agency period, it would appear that the Jazz are looking for a shooter to stretch defenses.

I'm concerned with our ability to score against zone defenses. 2 and 3 years ago, teams started playing zone because we A-we didn't have shooters, and B-Sloan's philosophy to attack a zone wasn't translating to results. Right now, if teams play zone, then Miles and Okur (when he returns) are our only pure shooters. Bell, Hayward, and unknown new player will have to step up, or else we'll see a heavy dose of zone this year.

My bet for opening night Roster.

Deron/Watson/Price
Miles/Bell/Thompson
Hayward/AK
Millsap/Evans
Jefferson/Elson/Fess/Memo

Then the Jazz can leave one spot open for injury protection if needed. Otherwise the Jazz have about 8 players who can legitimately play multiple positions and that should help a lot with our depth. This is how I imagine our depth chart will look.

Deron/Watson/Price
Miles/Bell/Thompson
Hayward/AK/Miles
Millsap/Jefferson/AK
Jefferson/Elson/Fesenko

And then obviously when Memo gets healthy he'll start to get more time but that could be a while.

After being a little lethargic a few weeks ago about this season, all of our recent additions have me pumped.

Wow - those are some raps you have on Hayward. I like the kid and think he'll be at least a serviceable NBAer, but if Sloan's defensive standards drop that much then you'll have earned whatever the dividend on any bet.

Well, I'm going more off of Sloan's liking younger guys to play with veterans, and I think the Jazz want Hayward to play.

Personally, I see Hayward being much more effective when surrounded by veterans like Deron, Millsap and Jefferson as opposed to a line up of Watson, Miles, AK and Fesenko.

Hayward is much better when he is the 4th or 5th best player for your team on the floor as opposed to the first or second best player on the floor, as least as a rookie.

As far as minutes go, I don't see him averaging more than say 23 minutes a game where as AK, Miles and Bell will all likely get 25-32. I just see Hayward getting his minutes with the starting line up to help him ease his way into the NBA.

I like that line-up personally. It gives us some outside shooting with Memo out and it keeps our second unit extremely competitive.

That's sound logic with which I can agree. Still, I can see that five giving up some starts and think it would need one more defender for balance. That's why I reckon either Bell or Kirilenko (in that order) will be in one of the swing spots from the tip.
