Dampier??

He is going to be traded within the next month or so where a team that trades for him will likley release him whereby they do not have to pay any of his contract. Its a wierd contract. I would have liked the Jazz to have signed him over Ellison or in addition thereto upon his release.

Another question is do the Jazz management get tempted to trade AK-47 for Dampier and someone like Najera to save salary cap tax savings? I hope not!!!! but I can see it happening if they see AK-47 as expendable. I personally feel AK-47 is a necessity on this team.

- What has the Jazz done that makes you believe they view AK as expendable?
- Elson, not Ellison
- If the Jazz trade AK for Dampier and Najera, and then waive Dampier, it essentially is trading AK for Najera (and his 3.something points and 2.something rebounds at $2.8 and $2.6 million) and cap space. So you aren't really adding Dampier--which makes it a horrible deal unless the team is interested in just saving money.

I don't see any remote chance of that happening.

Ive said it before and I will say it again.....Jazz should let AK quietly expire and then try to sign him to a reasonable deal.

I dont think AK will resign with us. He just isnt a Utah type of guy. He leaves every chance he gets, he is usually the last one to report back for training camp. And I dont believe that he really enjoys playing for sloan. I can see AK playing for a big city team.

I do think AK-47 leaves for Nets in the off season but I want him around, at least this season, to see what this team can do. I am afraid that the Jazz may want to save a buck to help pay for DWILL and Jeffersons contracts this year, thus do this type of salary dump trade. I really hope they let this team play it out and see what happens in the off season. Hopefully, AK-47 resigns with the Jazz for a reasonable contract but he is likely gone.

I don't think you realize the kinda roots AK set up in town. I'm not saying he won't leave, but he's actually part of the community with a house, kids in school, and a business. He would likely take better contract offers, but he isn't looking to play for a Russian Playboy on a bad team. AK has a very non-Prokhorov (sp) lifestyle.

I think AK is a Utah guy. He and Sloan seems to have worked out their difference, plus I think he feels like he needs to earn his contract still. He'll stick around imo for around the MLE, giving the Jazz a home town discount.

That is unless someone goes crazy and tries to give him a 10-12 million dollar contract.

I agree that the Jazz wouldn't trade AK for Dampier, and the Bobcats wouldn't have done it either. They want to stay under the luxury tax, which they can do by cutting Dampier. Kirilenko is not good enough for them to pass on that.

Dampier was just put on waivers, but I don't see why he would come to the Jazz over any other team, even if Memo is delayed in his return. Utah has Jefferson to start at C, and I'd put Fesenko at approximately the same level on the totem pole as an aging Dampier.

The Jazz won't offer him more than the minimum anyway, I wouldn't think. He'll either take more money from someone, or settle for the minimum from a top contender like Miami. Probably won't see him here, although I think his recent contract status has led people to focus on that and forget that he's actually a pretty decent veteran big man who can defend and rebound. He'll help whoever lands him, possibly quite a bit.

I wonder why the GMs don't make more Dampier like contracts. You can front load them so the player ends up with more money, and the team in essence has a de-facto trade exception come the end of the contract. Maybe move up the cut date to allow the player better access to the FA market.

Dampier would be a great addition, but he'll never play here for the minimum, so it's a moot point.

Per WT Houston has offered him a 2-year $4M deal; also per WT Houston is in talks with Fesenko.
