Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced Sunday the team’s 2010-11 training camp roster. In a related move, the Jazz signed NBA veteran free agent Demetris Nichols (F, 6-8, 218, Syracuse) and rookie free agent Ryan Thompson (G, 6-6, 210, Rider) and invited them to training camp. Utah’s roster now stands at 16 players as the team prepares for its annual Media Day on Monday.

The Jazz return nine players from last season’s squad that finished 53-29 and advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals, and welcomes 2010 draft picks Gordon Hayward (F, 6-8, 207, Butler) and Jeremy Evans (F, 6-9, 196, Western Kentucky) and offseason acquisitions Raja Bell, Al Jefferson, Francisco Elson and Earl Watson in addition to the two players the team added today.

Nichols has appeared in a total of 18 NBA games over two seasons (2007-09) with Cleveland, Chicago and New York, holding career averages of 1.2 points and 0.4 rebounds in 3.2 minutes per game. Nichols also played for the Jazz’s entry in the 2010 Orlando Pro Summer League, where he averaged 5.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.3 assists in 11.5 minutes per game. Thompson, the younger brother of the Sacramento Kings’ Jason Thompson, was not selected in the 2010 NBA Draft and played for the Boston Celtics’ entry in the Orlando Summer League, where he averaged 9.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 19.3 minutes per game. He also played for the Kings entry in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, appearing in five games (three starts) and averaging 5.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 15.8 minutes. As a senior at Rider in 2010-11, he appeared in 33 games (all starts) and averaged 17.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

2 Sundiata Gaines
5 Ryan Thompson
6 Othyus Jeffers
8 Deron Williams x
10 Demetris Nichols
11 Earl Watson x
13 Mehmet Okur x
16 Francisco Elson x
17 Ronnie Price x
19 Raja Bell x
20 Gordon Hayward x
24 Paul Millsap x
25 Al Jefferson x
34 C.J. Miles x
40 Gordon Hayward x
47 Andrei Kirilenko x

This is the full team list going to the training camp? That is 16 guys. The Jazz will most likely keep 13 or 14. I put x's by those that are locks.

2 Sundiata Gaines
5 Ryan Thompson
6 Othyus Jeffers
10 Demetris Nichols

Who makes it out of these four? I don't think that Gaines has a good chance with Watson and Price both under contract.

They have to keep 13. I still think Fes will accept the QO tomorrow. I think Fes will be 13 and Thompson will make it 14.

I want Othyus Jeffers to make it though. Even if he goes to Orem. He's muh Facebook friend.

I'm surprised the Jazz didn't invite a young center like Mohammad Sene or Patrick O'Bryant in case things don't work out with Fesenko.

Jazz should add another big dude, so Thompson and Nichols will fight for the 14th spot since Evans appears to be a lock. Of course there's the AK situation looming around...

I forgot about Fes. I am not entirely sure that he will come back. It would've been interesting to invite a young raw big like Sene to see what they look like and can do versus Fes.

utahjazz.com has the player numbers up. Didn't take long for 5 to get gobbled up. Looks like Mr. Boozer isn't in the plans for the rafters.

It doesn't have to be Sene. Just a young athletic shot blocking center. Wiretap is saying that FES has agreed to terms.

Sounds like everyone is in love with Jeremy Evans. I'm really, really, really hoping they keep him around, I loved the way he looked in summer league and I believe he could be a great energy guy off the bench.

- Evans played a good summer league; he's got outstanding athleticism and jumping ability. and no fear at all to try with them in spite of his thin body.

- AND Hayward played efficient basketball in summer league... do you know how awfully hard is to play smart, efficient basketball in the middle of the chaos created by marjority of dudes fighting for jobs? He made me eat my crap a little bit because I was really dissaponited with his drafting...
