I would like to see them both on the floor at the same time possibly. I'm sure that might happen. Just a thought.

Fesenko snuck up on Denver because 1) they had never scouted him and 2) he happened to be the player we really needed to change that series. A freaking huge and athletic big guy who would not be pushed around in the paint by guys like Nene, Birdman, etc. On defense, he clogged the lane and made dribble penetration difficult for Chauncey/Melo/etc which basically forced the Nuggets to become a team that lived by the outside shot.

He needs to be those things for us again this season but to be effective he must be able to stay on the floor and that means 1) fouling less and 2) hitting free throws more consistently.

Here's to hoping Fes has a great season for us....

I can see the same thing with maybe having them both on the floor. To give Milsap and Al a breather. If it goes down to one.I would go with Fes for his shot blocking ability. i hope he shows more offense this year!

a solid rotation for sure being able to swap Sap and Big Al basically any time we want. Fes needs to work hard in training camp though. I know I love the guy but I also know that he isn't the sharpest tool in the box. A little sharpening of his craft and he will understand that he is a asset to this team.

I agree.Fes can be a big part of the rotation if he could ever stay focussed for 18 minutes or so that would be great!Showed us flashes last year but never ran with it.Now he will get his shot at back up.

I would choose "the better player"--whichever that ends up being.

If they are both on the floor at the same time it had better be because the Jazz are up 20 with less than 2 minutes to go.

I can't wait for everyone to see how worthless Elson is at this point. Hope I'm wrong though.

I don't want to see them on the floor at the same time. I want Fes to get it together like DWill-daShizzle mentioned and get time next to Big Al.

I do have a feeling we will be talking about Elson poorly for years to come too.

this is what hollinger had to say about elson in his season preview for the jazz...

Utah needed size and Elson is a 7-footer, which about covers the positives. I'm skeptical that Elson is still an NBA player and was surprised the Jazz gave him a guaranteed deal rather than letting a few younger guys battle it out in training camp.

edit:

and here is Fes in the new uni...sexy fes

It should be Elson to start the season but if Fesenko finally decides to be a legit NBA player he can take over the spot after the first month.

So you want Elson to be worthless, but you hope you are wrong about him being worthless... Personally, and this might just be me, but I'd really rather no one on the Jazz end up being worthless.

I expect Elson to contribute a little more than Koufos, and may be help instill some better attitude into the K-Fes. If he's able to do that (the Elson I remember canv well do such things) then he's worth his contract for sure.

I think Millsap will sub out, Jefferson will move to the four, and Fes will take over the 5. I don't see Elson getting much time at all.

Since we have more quality players in the backcourt, I expect the frontcourt to sacrifice minutes, making us go small. (This is why I wanted a higher quality backup C instead a a nice backup PG).

That means 12 minutes for them both to fight over to backup Jefferson, and hopefully Okur is back for the playoffs to relieve them both. As long as Elson is healthy, we should benefit from a real competition between both third string bigs. If Elson sits it out, and Fes is the default, I don't expect much improvement out of him. He needs to win the spot to be worth it, imo.

Also, I don't think Elson is a full 7', and I think Fes is more than 7'. Elson should be much more mobile in guarding picks and rotating, but Fes is better are cloging the lane a la Eaton and Ostertag. Maybe we'll have a situational rotation, even though Sloan rarely goes for that.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

I expect him to be worthless, and it surprises me how many people think he's really going to contribute much and it will bring me great joy to say "i told you so". However I am completely willing to eat crow if he can make a positive impact, because the joy of Utah's success > than the satisfaction of being right.

Anything else I need to explain?

I wear a helmet because if I don't I'll run into **** and break my face. My helmet wearing has nothing to do with this.
