Actually this is exactly what I wanted to hear lo. Reports already said he can pick and roll. And if he can add a pick and pop to his game he'll be that much more unguardable

Yea, this is good news. No way sloan lets him become some sort of chucker full-time.

Can't we have just one big, one season, that only wants to finish in the paint?

You already know Jefferson's tendcy is the paint first.
But if he's expanded his game why would it be a negative if he has another offensive weapon?

Kyrylo will do you one better, he only wants to dunk it.

I dunno, it's like hearing that Shaq has been working on his 3pt shot all summer. It's another weapon, yes, but, you really don't want your post player having an easy option.
What you want is for your post guy to be punishing teams in the paint. Not lofting feathery floaters from 20 feet.

Glad he is expanding his game, this may be more necessary because neither Jefferson or millsap have much of a jumper. If I'm an opposing defense, I probably would go into a zone (to protect the paint) and try to force to jazz into making some outside shots.

Oh I disagree GP. I think Millsap's jumper is pretty reliable. This last year, he got a lot better.
"Millsap is hitting 50.5 percent of his long 2s this season, a wholesale improvement on last season's 38.5 percent, and he's also taking the shot more frequently."

Can't see how it's a bad thing. Will just make the pick-and-roll harder to defend if they know he's capable of sliding back for a jumper.

Yeah Millsap's midrange game was really nice last year, I am very excited that Millsap will finally be getting PT.

Good point, I do give props to Millsap and his improvements. With okur out, and having AJ and millsap inside, teams are going to pack the paint and dare both players to his jumpers. So I hope both guys keep working on their jumpers.

Offense is offense. Pick and pop was killer with Booze, don't see how this could be a bad thing with Jefferson.

because offense is NOT offense.
When you force double teams and fouls you are doing something entirely different than shooting jumpers.

If all he wanted to do is be in the paint, wouldn't that make him 1-dimensional? What's wrong with keeping guys guessing on what you will do with the ball?

Because I want my post player playing in the post. If he suddenly gets the idea that offense is offense and starts jacking up outside shots instead of scoring in the paint it's bad for the team.
And it's human nature to want to take the easier route. And the pick and pop is far less work than fighting inside where you'll get pushed, bumped, hit, grabbed and hacked. A jumper takes little effort at all compared to a power move across the paint. So, it's easy to see why big guys will gravitate towards the jumper.
I'd rather just have a player who could only score from 8 feet and in, as long as he COULD score from 8 feet and in.

I really don't get where you're going with this. If you've watched Al Jefferson you know his game starts and ends in the post. But if he's gonna be running the pick and roll primarily as a roll man why isn't it a good thing for him to have the pick and pop as an additional weapon

I've already answered that question.
You look at bigs. Malone, Webber, KG, etc... These guys start out as post players. Where they are very effective players, as they age they develop a jumper and spend less and less time fighting in the post and more and more time lofting jumpers. The whole, "The piick and pop is working real well for me" is just the beginning of that pattern. I don't want a late version Malone, Webber, KG, I want the early verion. I want the guy going towards the basket to score, not away.

Well, I just don't agree that it's going to be an issue. It's just another weapon out there, and one Al's not going to be abuse, considering he's such a skilled player down low and takes such pride in that. I'm not worried about it at all. But time will tell if you're right in this instance.
