Brewer/Korver

First off -- Bulls fan here, but I come in peace. Jazz are my West team, mostly because of my former classmate at ILL Deron Williams

Anyone able to give a synopsis of what I might expect from these two guards we got? I thought KK was just a spot up guy, but I'm pleasantly surprised how swiftly he can come around a screen, rapid release etc.

Brewer I really could use some help on. Any comments welcome...and if this thread already took place months ago..my apologies.

i sat in ILL's library next to Deron once, which was a really weird experience b/c his face was on the front of the very newspaper he was reading aloud from.

Korver is a streak shooter, and will surprise you with little things like his shot blocking ability, but as the season goes on you realize he's a role player.

Brewer is a starting caliber basketball player, but he can't shoot, and never will be able to. He's a great finisher, will get you 4 points off of TO's by himself each game, and is a capable 12-15 ppg guy. He's also a solid to good defender, but he isn't a lock down defender really. He won't stop any of the top tier guys.

Crap. Undoubtedly we'll be using him to guard Wade.

my opinion on both..

Korver: Great shooter, best FT shooter out there, cannot create his own shot, doesn't run that great. Puts in 100% effort (least with us). Can block and take charges pretty well I thought, not the best passer...needs screens - you give him a screen and a set play, he can hit that shot but most NBA guards can stay with him if you don't. Does a lot of charity work off the court. Fans here really liked him, but his price tag was a bit high. We'll see how much we miss his outside shooting. I wanted to keep him here but soon as we drafted Hayward he was expendable.

Brewer: Very athletic, strong. Loves to sneak around the baseline at least in our offense when he was here. All about slashing to the basket was his game..slashing to the basket and catching the D of guard while running the baseline. Did not post up. Deron seemed to really like him. He wanted to get into sportscasting/reporting I think on sports after basketball. Majority of points he made was slam dunks/short shots. Cheats a LOT on defence which is where he gets his steals from..likes to roam in passing lanes so he does get bured..wasn't a shut down the other player type person but he did play D enough to keep CJ Miles on the bench. Sloan used him and kept him on the court mostly for his "D". Hard worker, good guy off the court. Does not shoot the 3.. does not take long 2's..or.. well frankly he's not a bad shooter but not a good shooter either, he just doesn't shoot THAT well and his shooting mechanic looks kind of bad, and he doesn't look to shoot unless he has to...you'll see. During the playoffs other teams would not guard him which was a problem and caused more pressure on other teamates. Sounds like he wanted to come back from reports I've read.

Ok..that's my .02. Both good players, you'll like them but complete opposite players as far as shooting.

both are good bench players who have problems in their game that cant be improved (Brewer cant shoot at all and Korver cant play much D) but they are qaulity persons. Good guys to have on your team but not starters on a contender.

Both great role players, and I'd agree with most of what's been said. Kyle doesn't have much lateral quickness, but he's surprisingly scrappy and gives you 110% effort on defense (not that that translates into your thinking, "Man, KK is a really good defender"). On offense, he's a competent, but not great passer; shoots well under duress; and has absolutely no put-it-on-the-floor game.

Brewer is a solid defender, and will frustrate some guys in the passing lanes, but -- as was said above -- he's not going to bother the Kobes of the world. He has no shot whatsoever, and never will, even though I think he's worked on developing one. I think he's a legitimate NBA starter, but barely.

Brewer and Boozer have great chemistry. Ronnie always plays better when he is feeding off of Boozer on the baseline.

Their big pictures almost perfectly encapsulated.

Korver: You want the ball in his hands in the closing of games because no one shoot better from the line then Kyle. He is a smart defender and will get you off you chair every once in awhile with a block. He is one hell of a shooter. just look at the % he had last year from downtown.

Brewer: The kid cant hit many jump shots for you, but he can still score alot of points for you guys. I used to call him baseline Brew because he loved getting the ball down there to throw it down or put it off the glass. Hes a good defender, sometimes takes too many chances, thats why sloan got mad with him sometimes. Energy energy energy! I really miss #9, i wanted him and CJ to be our 2 and 3 for years to come.
