Karl Malone on Paul Millsap

We all know Sap was a beast, but he just broke out of the cage tonight. Does anyone remember when Karl Malone was on TNT the night we played the Mavericks, I think it was in February 2008 or 2009, and he was talking about what a beast Millsap was? He was telling us to look out. Sap is the real deal, and I know I suggested that Sap could be better than Jefferson before the season started but it's official now, the dude just needed more minutes.

Malone wasn't being a homer, dude was straight up keeping it real.

I was seriously considering a Sap jersey since I already have two D-Will t-shirts and I'm pissed that my Boozer jersey is now worthless, but I think I'll just stick with a Sap T-Shirt. Jerseys I only wear to games. T-Shirts I can wear anywhere.

I think he has a good enough stroke to be Utah's new go-to-go guy.
Hustle players can't shoot or score but Millsap showed us that he can do both. He could be a star in the making. 8-)

Welcome to the party folks. I've known this guy was a bargain since the day we signed that contract. Tonight was something unbelievably special.

I've always been a huge fan of Millsap but I'm still being cautious...

I want to see a whole season put together before I dub him the next messiah, but I do have very, very high hopes for him. I want him to succeed as much as anyone else out there so don't take me wrong....

I hope Millsap doesn't get too cocky because last I heard the Mailman has one good game left in him.

The thing is Boozer is more naturally talented than Millsap, I think, however, Millsap is so much easier to actually root for because he works so much harder than Boozer.......

And he's obviously worked a lot on his game since coming into the league.......

Gotta love Millsap......

I totally disagree about Booze being more naturally talented. Don't forget Booze was a 2nd round pick himself...

Considering how many people were pissed about it at the time, you're sarcasm isn't that sarcastic.

I wasn't around on the board, so I'll take your word for it. But that really surprises me if people thought that was a bad contract.

Not everyone did but I was also surprised by how many thought it was as well. I think the toxic nature of the contract made people mad. Some have even wanted to trade him (cough cough holy toledo)... There is no doubt that he is the best value in the league.

People thought it was at the outer limits of what he would be worth. BUT the big thing at the time was the fact that, during the summer of 2009, there was very, very little free $$$ out there for anyone to offer him a deal. I think the general perceived value of Paul as a player was somewhere in the neighborhood of 7m a season or so. The problem was that no one who was interested and/or a likely a destination for him could have given him more than the MLE. So for the Blazers to go out and give him that much money was a disappointment for a lot of folks who thought we'd be getting Paul on a discount, in addition to being an amount that was slightly higher than his perceived market value.

All that said, I knew that if he ever got a chance to be the guy he would earn his money. But being a sub was never going to let us get our money out of him, and it seemed unlikely that he would ever be better than Boozer. Since we had very little hope of getting any equal value out of Boozer, it seemed that we would likely keep him around and thus render Millsap extraneous, given his contract. When the Jefferson deal fell in our lap, it opened the door for Millsap to be the man AND for us to get a major asset in return for Boozer that wouldn't also keep Paul on the bench. Its hard to say just how fortunate we are to be in this position right now.

I think you can be suspended from the board for using the words "HolyToledo" without the proper descriptors. Examples of acceptable decscriptors:

douchebag
asshat
doink
diptwa

:D

I too am cautiously optimistic. I want to see how he holds up for a whole season as a starter, that being said, holy damn that was an amazing performance. Its hard to dislike a player when he works so hard and is very humble.

Sorry to go a little OT here and I do not want to start an argument but can you please explain your sig to me? As a Blazer fan I am envious of your teams coach so I am surprised and confused to see such a sig on the Utah forum.
