Deron after half-time

Saw this on Truehoop....
"In the first half of games, Williams is averaging 7.2 points, shooting 37.7 percent from the floor and taking just 2.3 free throws. In the second half, he’s averaging 14.1 points, shooting better than 50 percent from the floor (51.3) and going to the free-throw line 5.1 times."
This is probably why we fall behind early and come back. Dwill doesn't turn on the jets until the 2nd half. I would be interested to see what his assists look like by half too.

Deron Williams is and always has been a second half player...

He normally gets the assists in the first, and the points in the 2nd, as he tries to involve his team, problem is everybody struggles in the first, even Deron. Atleast the lack of energy that use to be an issue the entire game on the road seems to getting resolved, one half at a tiime. Hopefully being road warriors doesn't mean we've now lost our edge at home.

That's exactly what he should be doing. You win the game in the second half.

Oh I'm 100% ok with this, it's what good PGs do.
I also like that he's getting to the line more this year, he's always been able to draw contact at will a la dwade, he just seems more assertive this year.

I don't really have a problem with Deron's tendency to start off slow and then play like an absolute beast in the second half. I like that he's trying to get his teammates going before getting himself going and the law of averages suggests that he'll probably start to connect on a higher percentage of the shots he does take in the first half.
That being said, I don't like that the team as a whole is starting so slowly. I think Deron's approach is the right one, but other guys need to start hitting wide open shots if we're going to put an end to this disturbing trend of falling in to huge holes. Raja and/or C.J. shooting better early in games would be HUGE. It's fine that we're a second half team. In fact, it's a great thing, but it'd be nice if we could at least shoot a decent percentage, play aggressive defense and just hang around in the first half before going into "f*** you, we're winning this game no matter what" mode in the second half.

i dont think deron is alone in those kind of statistics. the rest of the jazz might be similar.

I don't think it's just a matter of Deron focusing on setting his teammates up in the first half. To my eyes, he's just played poorly all-around in first halves (though I'm sure someone could find an assist number to throw at me).
