Andrei Kirilenko, Earl Watson, Ronnie Price, Gordon Hayward, Jeremy Evans. Five wing players and/or point guards on the roster who are not serious 3-point threats making it easier to guard the Jazz. Deron's gripe has always been a lack of consistent perimeter shooting on the Jazz. What happens in the offseason? The Jazz let go of Korver and Matthews. They also know Okur will be injured to start the season. That is a loss of 3 perimeter shooters to start the season. They replace 3 perimeter shooters with Raja Bell, who himself, is 34 years old and coming off a season long injury. A perfect recipe to make Deron unhappy and for disaster. With Bell coming off a long injury and Miles' history of inconsistent play I always thought the Jazz should have kept one of Matthews or Korver (it looks like Matthews is the one the Jazz should have kept). The Jazz should have had 14 players on their roster. That would have allowed Hayward to develop his game in the NBDL. In today's NBA you cannot have more than two perimeter players on a roster who can't consistently make outside shots. The Jazz have five such players and Okur and Bell, with their age and injury history don't look like long term solutions either.

Nobody is a big fan of Raja right now, but he is shooting .379% vs wesley's .381. It was obviously way higher than that before he got into the slump he is in. Some of us don't remember that at one point this season, he was not in a slump.

That's true and honestly you have to wonder how much his shoulder injury comes into play. If it does, he's not missing games or whining about it, so I give him some credit.

But still, I agree with the OP. Jazz management is always willing to let a good player or two go to cut costs by convincing themselves that their skill sets will be compensated for by the other players. They were right when they let Brewer go, but flat out ignorant to think an injured Memo, a 34 year old aging, recently injured Bell and a bunch of inconsistent guys (AK,CJ) could replace Mathews and Korver.

Korver, by the way, set a league record in 3 point percentage. He got better with the Jazz every season before we just let him leave.

We didn't just let Korver leave...... The Bulls overpaid for him........

The Jazz cannot AFFORD to pay all these players...... It has nothing to do with our front office, and everything to do with simple arithmetic...... The franchise doesn't have the money...... No use whining about it.......

I just think Korver is worth the extra 2 Million a year over Raja. But you're right, because AK's contract really doesn't give the Jazz much room. We'll see how they address these issues, probably next summer. That will be the real test. If they don't make the roster moves needed to surround Deron with appopriate talent, it will be a joke.

Well there was a reason Raja was fairly cheap compared to other guys, you get what you pay for(most of the time). Hopefully we can move Raja to the bench once we get a decent SG for next season.

The worst thing about this slump is I know Jazz will rebound just enough to get a 7/8th seed first round outtie, the worst spot you can be in the league. no chance at a championship, no lottery pick.

I said that to a couple of my friends the other day. I really dont want this team in the playoffs but the gap between the 8 and the rest is huge and the Jazz are not that bad yet but if this continues we will not see our boys in may.

um dont look now but memphis sitting at #9 right now are only 4 games behind Utah...

As bad as things look, Utah can jump right back into the top 4/5 seeds at the end of this week.
Hornets play OKC and LAL. OKC play Hornets and LAL. Utah has Houston(H), Denver(A) and OKC(H).

You mean I have to watch the playoffs AGAIN? **** this, I'm taking all the Tylenol PM I can find.

Just look at the fourth week in March (@Hou, @Mem, @ OKC, NO, Dallas) or the entire month of April (LAL, @Sac, @LAL, Por, @SA,@NO, Den). We should be building our record now to avoid the damage of those runs.

By the end of an 82 game season, you are what your record says you are. Thats why we end up there.
