well, now that we have a new coach for the first time in a few decades, what changes do you think we'll see? In regards to starting lineups, playing style, player movement.....etc. Sounds like Corbin is the head coach and not just an interim, so he can start instituting his methods right away if he wanted to. I am think we are going to see a more open offense, not run n gun, but we are going to be pushing the ball more and try to get up court before the defense can set. More playing time for Hayward/Fes/Evans. Either way this should be an interesting latter half of the season.

The biggest change should be on the personnel side of things. I doubt very much that Ty Corbin is going to insist on fielding a team of lesser-talented over achievers. I have great hope that the Jazz will finally start to build a team filled with NBA caliber talents and stop trying to get by with Jerry's kids.

You got to expect change. Corbin has sat back for years and just got a job promotion so of course there will be change. I expect to see a more up to date version of Sloan style basketball. I believe this can be a good thing we will just have to watch as it pans out.

I will miss Sloan but I think he was way out of touch with today's basketball player and lost on how utilize players talents. Ty will do a better job at making the players play within their abilities.

That's the most disappointing thing about the Corbin choice. It means more of the same. At least if we'd have hired someone else we wouldn't know what to expect. We might get some actual change. That change might be positive or negative, but, at least it'd be interesting.

With Corbin we'll be getting almost exactly the same thing as we got from Jerry. Same sets. Similar rotations. Why? Well, it's easy, everything he know about coaching in teh NBA he learned from Sloan.

So, don't expect a new starting lineup. Don't expect to be running a different offense or defense. Maybe you'll see a bit more zone or a bit more 2 pointguard lineup. But, the differences will be more of amount instead of kind.

The new boss is the same as the old boss.

Well, it's easy, everything he know about coaching in teh NBA he learned from Sloan.

You can not say that it will be the same just cause he was an assistant. When you learn from some one you just do the same thing? No, You tweak it to what you think it will be the right version of the over all goal. He will have his own coaching style and will work it out or he will fail it really could go either way.

This is the first time in some of our lives we have a new coach. So right now lets discuss the new prospect of it.

Expect to be disappointed then. I doubt you'll notice any difference tomorrow night. If tihs had happened before the season started Corbin might have had time/ability/desire to change things up a bit. But, he's not going to mess with things in the middle of the season to any significant degree.

We won't be running the princeton offense with a matchup zone with a lineup of Watson, Deron, CJ, Jefferson, Fes.

Don't get your hopes up.

I don't think we will see much of a difference if any to start. For sure the same lineups and main substitutions for 10 games or so. I think he will then start to make a lot of substitution changes and 2 unit lineups. i think he will play Jeremy more because hes worked with him so much and talks so highly of him, and I'm not just saying that because I want to see more Jeremy.

If anyone watches the summer league games you see how different and unconventional his lineups are, especially compared to Scotties. Scotty does the lineups you'd expect Jerry to do, and Tys are always dramatically different. Ty would also usually win his sumer league games when he was head coach and Scotty would lose his.

Don't expect much of a change in the philosophies or plays, Corbin play them, and has been a coach of Jerrys system. What else does he know to do?

Nice post, I really had no clue of what he has done, or who he has worked with. Very insightful.

Also, he was ranked #2 by GMs on who would be the best current assistant coach to become a head coach. Ty was only second to Phil Johnson.......

I don't expect it to be night and day nor the exact same.

I learned a ton from my boss. He was promoted to associate director. He later hired me to be a manager. He was my boss for 5 years. I was under him longer than any other manager by far. I learned more from him than anybody else. One could say he was really the only manager style that I knew.

When I was made manager, I did my own things. I used things that he taught me and similar ideas but I had to be my own man and my own boss or everybody would think that I was his lackey and not respect me. I knew what I liked about his style and what I didn't. Others complained to me as an associate what they didn't like, so I adapted.

It won't be the same old, same old.

It will be the exact same, dont kid yourselves.

They will 'try' to push the ball, one of these days people (hopefully deron himself) will realize that when he gets the ball he needs to push and not blame the other guys.

The only changes we will notice is substitution patterns.

I believe you all will be very suprised as to what changes with the Utah Jazz!!

We wont get any changes yet, you cant change things in 24 hours.

Those of you who think the ball will be pushed more are wrong. Deron rarely pushes the ball unlike watson and price.

Except for the fact that he played under Lenny WIlken and Cotton Fitzsimmons as well, both regarded as some of the best coaches of all time.

And I definitely expect new line ups, probably a new philosophy on the three point line on both sides of the floor, and likely some new sets. I am sure we will still see some of the same plays run since the team knows those plays right now, but there will be a new offense instituted as the year goes on.

Good points, I think playing in the system during an NBA game is important for understanding what works and what doesn't. Being closer to the players, also has the benefits of getting their perspective on what works/doesn't. That plus new lineups and rotations would be a nice change.

A lot of that is because Deron has to play 38 minutes a game every night.

As for Price, has anything good ever come from him pushing the ball?
