What's going on in DWills mind?

Since there have been almost mute player reactions to this whole Sloan thing, I was wondering what DWill might be thinking going forward. Is he happy? "It's about damn time". Is he indiferent? "I'm probably out'a here next year anyway". Or is he scared? "Crap, what just happened? What did I do?"

To me, it's the latter. I think right now he must be feeling this whole thing out, not in the heat of the moment but really grasping it and saying "****, what just happened?". There is a saying here in PR that says, "it's not the same to invite the devil than to actually see him coming" and I think he should be going through that.

What do y'all think? How about the rest of the guys?

Players and coaches have confrontations all the time. I doubt that it was the latest confrontation that made Sloan resign but instead the cumulative effect of those confrontations over his career. MAybe he just realized that I have had enough of this. To me it seemed that the coach has lost some intensity from his younger years.

From everything I've read and heard in interviews with him and not from the "experts" who quote anonymous sources or speculate on message boards, Deron was surprised. It was just another game, just another disagreement between two stubborn people. Then suddenly the coach is retiring. Deron said he was shocked but if coach says he didn't have the energy to deal with it anymore then he's earned the right to leave on his own terms. And Deron was totally annoyed with the ESPN reporter with his anonymous source saying it was D-Will's fault. He called him out specifically in the Locke interview. Said he acts all buddy-buddy when he sees him and then something like this comes up and does he ask Deron about it before throwing it up on the national news scene? No. Reinforced this is why he doesn't talk much with the media and will continue to not talk much with the media. But also flatly denies EVER going to management and saying anything like "its me or coach". He said that wouldn't be his place and he would say "it is time for me to go" before saying "you need to get rid of the coach".
As for going forward, he said they need to pull together as a team and keep playing through this. They still have a job to do. That's all I see.

I am sure Deron is in a state of unrest right now, and who can blame him. Everyone is plastering that he ran Sloan out of town all over the news, when really it seems he was just conducting business as usual in a Jerry Sloan lockerroom.

The best thing Deron can do is come out, be professional like he always is, continue to play hard and win games. I hope the rest of the team follows suit which might give us a chance to retain Deron in 2012.

Listen to his interview. I'm pretty sure his thoughts right now are mixed with appreciation for Jerry and excitement for the possibility of having a more fast paced, high tempo offense.

You know, it just came to me that someone from the team should come out with a mic before the game and address the people giving praise and appreeciation to Sloan for all he's done for the team. And that should be Deron. It'd make this whole situation easier IMO and would also boost the team like when LHM passed.

Altho I think it's fair to wonder what most players are thinking, anyone that listened to the Locke interview pretty much know what Deron is thinking....As far as having someone come out and praise Sloan, much as I'd like to see that I worry that some fans would turn it into a circus....

i think one statement was very telling in his interview when he said the next few days are going to be a "circus"

he knows about the backlash that's been going on, and i think he's a bit scared which is quite unfortunate if you ask me.

On ESPN Bucher and Broussard have interesting takes. They are saying more that D-Will thought Sloan wasn't putting enough into it and didn't have the energy to coach at the level any longer. He never had an ultimatum and this is going to make it more likely he stays in Utah.

Yeah, the latest reports from "inside sources" seem to be saying that it was Sloan who quit listening, not Deron or the rest of the team. Maybe Sloan did finally mail it in, and really realized it yesterday.

what makes you think he's scared? Because he's stating what he thinks?

I was thinking about this... it could backfire if Deron did it. It may seem totally self-serving. I think it would be appropriate for someone to do it, though.

I think it would be better if AK did it. He is the only player to bridge the gap between the Stockton era and the Deron era, and has been there for a lot of crazy times, and has matured a ton since his start here. I would like that a lot.

That would go over about as well as a video tribute to Carlos Boozer before Wednesday nights game.

Why? Jazz fans are not going to give Deron the Boozer treatment, not if they want to win anything over the next ten years. Nobody knows what went on behind those doors, but we do know Sloan is getting WAY up there in age, and it was probably time to call it quits...

If Williams felt Sloan wasn't putting 100%, or was incapable of doing so given his age, so be it...valid concern, imo

Some of you guys need to really listen to that Williams interview over there's a lot cover up on Dwills behalf for someone who's played for Coach Sloan for 5plus years and that's all he could say?? Really come on guys

As Malone said the real Jazz fans know this isn't the whole story..
