Day #1. A loss vs. the Suns at home. Team was short handed. No Okur, no Bell, AK out with sprained ankle. So, it was a hard game. We played a ton of different lineups. Some worked, some didn't.

After the half Phoenix made adjustments that shut down the Jazz offense. The Jazz were never able to adapt.
Pick and Roll defense was abysmal.
I actually saw a couple players actually just walking down the court to get back.
Jefferson looked like he was dogging it. Multiple times he refused to chase loose balls in his areas or attempt to get back on defense after a turnover.
Rebounding effort on he whole was poor, especially in teh 2nd half.

So, I'm gonna give Game #1 of the Corbin era a C-. Grade would be lower, but for injuries and so little time as head coach.

What's with your hate for Ty Corbin????

Before going into last nights game, Ty hadn't even had a full practice to work with the players. Just shootaround. The lazy defense on part of the players in the second half has nothing to do with Ty. He played Hayward a lot of minutes last night, and without Hayward, we lose by 20+. Not too mention the entire game turner last night was AK going down with an injury. He was all over the place.

I'll give him a C for the Phoenix game. Players weren't motivated in the second half, I think they thought that cruise control would work and it didn't. It takes time to learn these things, but once they do this team has the potential to be very good.

The team was obviously exhausted from all the going ons from the week, and once AK went down (who was really the source of the early game energy, just watch the start of the game again and it is blatantly obvious), and there was nobody out there that had the energy to keep it up. That explains the huge drop off in offense from beginning to end. Not Corbin's fault.

He is really going to have to work hard to get Al's trust I think. Al was so excited to play for Sloan, and in less than a season that is done. He seems like the kind of guy that needs some pushing to get on board with the coaching staff anyway.

B- Millsap and Kirilenko(before the injury)
C- Corbin and D-Will

F- Jefferson got pooped on by Lopez. Miles for chucking so much in the 2nd half

I think Al has taken the whole Sloan thing the hardest, at least, judging by that game (vs. Pho). He lookes as if he was not into it, which hadn't happened in any other game. He could struggle, but it wasn't because of lack of effort. I hope these days the team can get together again.

I will be happy to rate Ty when he selects the players and has time to implement this system. Until that time it is unfair to hold him accountable for the team assembled and trained by somebody else.

Well, I'm more like a fuzzy wabbit than Hitler right now. But, I'm going to be a bit more critical after the All-Star break. Then when he gets a full healthy roster, maybe I'll be Hitler. I'll have to work on my 'stache though.

Hornacek's promotion is now official. They likely won't add a third assistant coach until the off season.

Doesn't Malone want to coach in some way shape or form? You think the organization wants Malone to help out?

Malone basically called the entire organization liars. Not really helpful if he wants to work here. Hard work was his best skill and don't think he is a good communicator.

What made Malone great for the most part can't be taught. And what things he can teach I'm not sure I want the Jazz learning.

I'd let him suit up for 10mpg though.

He's a big man coach too, he was there for Yao early.

Malone doesn't want t coach right now because he's kid's playing football and they say he's all right at it.

Game #2 - @ PHO

Disappointing loss. But, the coach can't play the game for the players.

First the good.
I liked how he put CJ on Frye. It was teh right move, but, maybe the wrong player. If AK was healthy that's a better move. CJ just wasn't disciplined enough to stay on him. Always sagging off him just enough to give him daylight. Still, I like the coaching move if not the player execution.

He also changed up how we defend the pick and roll. Pulling a 3rd player from behind to stop the roll forcing Nash to be a scorer instead of a passer. I thought it was pretty effective as Nash had Stockton disease and refused to make the Jazz pay by scoring.

I thought he got much better effort out of the guys tonight. I didn't see anyone walking up the court tonight.

Then the bad.
Down 1 with 16 seconds to go, I disagree with taking the shot with so much time left on the clock. That looked like a coaching call more than a palyer call to me. I think we could use another option on that last play of the game. I've seen that play way too many times and I've seen Deron miss that jumper way too many times. I'd love to see another option off that set. Long story short, I'd have rather taken the last shot of the game win or lose than turn it into a free throw shooting competition.

Despite the loss, I liked a lot of what I saw from Corbin. I'm gonna give tonights grade a B+. Could have gotten an A grade if not for that questionable play with 16 seconds to go.
