Karl Malone--Things You May Not Know

Karl was in town last week as everyone was aware. He spoke out as often as anyone would listen.
Here's a few things the younger fans may not know about Karl.
He was a tough guy.

He didn't always make good decisions.

And he thought Sloan was going to retire along time ago. His bluster about rebuilding was also cover for him not liking the $10 mil contract LHM offered him after his last year paid $19.3 million. LHM would have given him two years. He would have gotten the scoring record, but partly to save face he took the league veteran's minimum salary of $1.5 mil from the Lakers. Remember the good decisions thing above.

Still didn't make good decisions after he left.

I first met Karl when I was visiting SLC in his rookie year and stopped by Westminster to watch the Jazz practice. We had mutual acquaintances at La Tech. After watching him play, it was obvious he was going to be an excellent player. After talking to him, I remember thinking he's got a big ego, and he was somewhat shy back then so the way he talked reminded of another, Malone, Moses Malone nicknamed "Mumbles".
It didn't take Karl long to start talking and keep right on talking. I wish he had stayed with the Jazz two more years before retiring, and had taken a shot at the scoring record.
