Next Steps: Trades to Complement the Deron Move

Post#1 » by The59Sound » Wed Feb 23, 2011 4:35 pm

I thought this would be a good place to discuss moves that make sense following the Deron deal. What trades could potentially complement this move? Do we trade Al? Millsap? And what kind of player do we target?

This is a really exciting time to be a Jazz fan, whether one is happy or unhappy about today's deal.

With you 1,000%. I would love to have that kid on the floor with Hayward or AK.

Nice to see some Gallinari love in here though if the Clips couldn't get him we probably can't either (unless you wanna massively overpay)

Utah sends / OKC receives:
Al Jefferson
Raja Bell
Lottery protected 1st round pick

OKC sends / Utah receives:
Serge Ibaka
James Harden
Cole Aldrich
Morris Peterson

Why this trade works for the Jazz:
Ibaka and Favors would make a great frontcourt for the future with Aldrich still offering some potential there. Harden still has potential to develop into a very good SG. Essentially, this trade acquires pieces for the future in positions of need for the team. Their new lineup:

PG...Harris...Price
SG...Harden...Miles
SF...Kirilenko...Hayward
PF...Millsap...Favors
C...Ibaka...Okur...Aldrich

Why this trade works for OKC:
The future is now for the Thunder. Jefferson gives them the big man presence they need alongside Westbrook and Durant. He's still pretty young too. Bell is a good addition to the Thunder bench for the playoffs. Their new lineup:

PG...Westbrook...Maynor
SG...Sefolosha...Bell...Cook
SF...Durant...Bell
PF...Green...Collison
C...Jefferson...Krstic

What do you think?
My Dream Team
PG...Magic Johnson...Steph Curry
SG...Michael Jordan...Kobe Bryant
SF...Larry Bird...Elgin Balyor
PF...Tim Duncan...Hakeem Olajuwon
C...Kareem Abdul-Jabbar...Wilt Chamberlain

Serge is the best player in that group, plus they throw in Harden?

We NEED some shooters. We just got even worse from range, believe it or not. Jazz should go for consistent shooters that put up 12-16p every night, not streaky@$$ players like CJ who put up 30 one night and 7,4,11,and 8 the next four nights.

Maybe we can trade for that Mathews kid.

Move Harris to get Mathews back? Maybe take Miller off their hands since they want to part with him.

I'd like that trade quite a bit actually. It makes sense for both teams.

I would like the trade also, but it doesn't really make much sense for Portland. Just a pipe dream. Matthews has been killing it for Portland.

I guess I was overestimating how badly they wanted to move Miller.

I'd be surprised if the Jazz trade Jefferson unless they land someone else to play center.

I really just want CJ Miles gone at this point. The thought of him thinking he has to step up his game to fill D-Will's scoring void makes me ill.

I think there is probably some legs under the Matthews/Miller for Harris deal. It makes sense for both teams, it just depends on how much Portland likes Matthews. The Jazz might have to give up a 1st rounder or something and Portland would probably be asking for it too knowing them...

Outside of shipping Harris, Raja, Watson or Elson I feel like the Jazz should stay put with who they got. I like the Jefferson/Millsap combo and it gives you a solid front court to build around for the next few years.

It really just depends on who/what we could get in return but I don't see anymore moves being made with our "core" guys unless KoC really hit the drink before today started.

I would give almost anything to get Ibaka.

This trade works:

Jazz Trade: Big Al and Fesenko or Elson (their choice)
Jazz Receive: Ibaka, Peterson (Exp), Kristic (Expiring)

Thunder Trade: Ibaka, Peterson (Exp), Kristic (Exp)
Thunder Receive: Big Al and Fesenko or Elson

Basically Big Al for Ibaka

Jazz build around the bigs of Favors, Ibaka with Millsap coming off of the bench in the future

Thoughts?
