Who Won Who Lost Williams Trade

Who Won

Tyrone Corbin It’s his team now, and he’s a legitimate coach of the future. Corbin will get a 4 year deal worth $3 to $4 mil a year and he’ll stay.

G Miller He’s got balls and he made a good decision.

KOC He got real value for Deron and set the Jazz up to make the playoffs for years to come. Harris may very well be a high probability player to resign with the Jazz in 2014 and finish his career in Utah, if Utah is winning. Favors is good until 2015. At that point, he’ll be a max money player if he’s as good as I think he will be.

Fans No Melo LeBron drama. Solid Jazz team with excellent young players that can carry the Jazz into the playoffs for at least the next 5 years.

The Jazz Players Now they have a chance to grow outside of the shadow of Williams. Expect to see improvement in their ability to win within 5 games.

The Jazz get a significant 1st round draft pick this year, when they had none. It could be a top 7 pick unless NJ protected it, which I don’t think they did. Golden State’s 2012 pick isn’t worth much except it’s a trade chip. Golden State’s 2012 pick is likely to be higher than the Jazz’s pick in 2012 so the Jazz could trade their pick and wind up higher in the draft.

Who is Likely to Lose (changed in deference to D-Rudd)

The Nets They got a good point guard who makes himself better at the expense of others, including the coaches and players. His contract expires in one year, there’s a lockout coming possibly, and Deron ain’t going to like New Jersey or playing in Brooklyn. The Nets have to hope that after playing with Lopez, Williams will feel like the Nets are coming on strong and the owner is going to spend to bring in talent so he’ll sign a long term max contract. Playing with Lopez may be offset by the NY no mercy press and the lockout. If Deron didn’t like the pansy reporters in SLC, wait until he experiences the sharks in those waters. I know. I lived there. Deron don’t have to worry about making the playoffs this year so he’ll have more time for golf and to let his wrist heal.

Williams More to whine about now. He won’t like the east, the Nets rebuilding program, the golf season or the state income taxes. It’s a long flight back to San Diego! But he has Lopez.

Jerry Sloan In hindsight he should have hung in there, and he would have gotten the wins record. Under Sloan this new group could have won 50 plus games a year.

Jeremy Evans. I like Evans, but Favors is way ahead of him. I don’t think Jeremy can catch up because of his body type, which is hard to bulk up. He’s okay this year, but next year with another draft pick someone has to go. I hope Evans can really improve in the off season.

What’s Left to Do.

1. Find a true defensive center that can make a difference in the paint and who won’t foul out or look like they’re at Disney World.

2. Figure out what to do with Okur. He’s cost the Jazz $12 mil while injured and hasn’t scored a point hardly in the last year and a half. Big's don’t recover from injuries very well so he’s not likely to ever be a major contributor again but is owed $10 mil. His trade value is much lower now with 1.5 years off.

3. Try to trade AK now or resign him for the $8 to $10 mil a year he’s actually worth. If AK can keep his ego in check, his agent in the box and his serotonin levels up to avoid the hang dog, he might be back with the Jazz. The good news is Harris might actually help AK play to the level he capable of. The downside is injuries. He has to play to be worth $10 mil a year.

4. Find an assistant coach who is strong on defense or has outstanding offensive skills. Forget BS like Gordon Chiesa, John Stockton or Karl Malone. Move Scott Layden back down the bench where he belongs or better yet get him a PR or marketing job in the FO. Then Corbin could hire two real assistants.

Win-win. Harris is a starting caliber PG, and could be an All-Star PG again in Utah's system, add to this of the #3 pick of the 2010 NBA Draft, an unprotected 2011 lottery pick from NJ, and the first round pick via GS which will probably 8-14 range, and we got the chance to really retool his team into a better team. In the end Willams was gone in the summer of 2012, we had to move him or lose him.

NJ was on the road to nowhere, now they get a top 10 player. IF NJ manages to get a MAX-level player with their cap space you have a nice core with Williams, Lopez, and that big free agent, and it could persuade Williams to stick around. Williams needs to resign with the Nets or demand a trade to get his extension.

Makes alot of sense for Utah and some sense for Nets. If I were the Nets, I would have waited until off season and see who I would have gotten from the draft then re-evaluate their needs.

If Deron doesn't extend his contract with them, the Nets lose big-time.

Off topic but retired coach at what level exactly did you retire at??? I've read posts of yours talking about buying only a certain brand of luxery car and even several cars/trucks a year....unless utah schools really pay their HS coaches you must be claiming to be Majerus,Sloan,Johnson or .....
