Let this be Big Al's Team
Guys this guy can be the next Karl Malone type of scorer if he gets the touches you need to have faith in him. But he can block shots..... Deron wouldnt let this happen he wouldnt play second fiddle to him or Boozer. With the rookie Favors needing a mentor to look up to he has both Paul and Al both great at what they do!! Remember Al has only been in this system for half a year and is still working his way back from major surgery from a year and a half a go..... But I believe Al Jefferson can be a 26 & 10 & 2 type of player
Thoughts?

Just a note since D Will went out he had one bad scoring game and one bad rebound game during that stretch

Re: Let this be Big Al's Team
I don't think D-Will was holding Al back, I think it was Millsap. The Jazz couldn't decide which guy to run the PF plays for.
I think Al can be a really nice player for the Jazz and I hope they don't trade him. With Favors coming in I'd rather see Millsap traded.

Re: Let this be Big Al's Team
It was Sloan's team before. We haven't had a player leader for years. But Corbin doesn't have the same presence as Sloan. Unless we hire someone like Laimbeer, I think we'll be looking to a player to step up.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

To me, Big Al personifies the failure of this Jazz team that just resulted in my favorite NBA player getting shipped out of town. I like him, but don't think he's a winning player. GTFO

Minnesota was Al's team, and so was Boston. I think he's a great 2nd fiddle, but he's not and should not be asked to be a "superstar" type player.

Re: Let this be Big Al's Team
I don't think Jefferson wants to lead the team.
But I do hope he wants to be part of a big, title contending front line some day. Jefferson and Favors both have a 9'2" standing reach. That's the right size. Jefferson's D doesn't look bad, and two trees inside could help with the rebounding.
Plus, Jefferson's post moves can provide the stable offense you need to win in the playoffs where run and gun offenses fall flat on their face. I do think his back to the basket game should be our first option, but he isn't going to be a vocal leader.

I tend to disagree in that Houston game Al had the team on his back had the game in his hands then Jerry takes it away the last minute and goes to Paul and Earl because he didnt have faith in Al when he was the one who gave us the lead and carried us the whole game Al was cleaning the glass, He was showing a lot of leadership in that game with no D Will on the court (Maybe you needed to be there to see it) I really wish they would of ran the plays down the stretch for him. But they didnt and dont. And we ended up losing that game because Paul missed and Earl missed and then CJ missed the game winner but when we had a 5 point lead was because of Al but Jerry took it away from him. And trusted Paul just like the PHX game again a bad choice by TY......
Remember Al is only 26 Now is the time for him to step up!!! He shouldnt of been asked to in those other cities.

Jefferson was incredible tonight in defeat. He was nearly unstoppable from the floor.

You know how many time Celtic and Minny fans have said that over the years?
Every team that Big Al was the "goto guy" on has sucked HARD. You guys don't want that.

Yeah, I know...
Sad losing follows him around. He's such a gifted offensive big man.

He's basically Zach Randolph. He can be a nice role player, but if you try and build a team around him, it's only going to end in misery.

Re: Let this be Big Al's Team
Let Big Al become a leader guys he will be the BIG AL we all know and expected him to be when we heard he was coming to SLC
Remember Deron is a selfish player and only wanted to get his first.... I saw Big Al take a big step when D Will went out with the injury and I belive he can do this every night!!! After Malone had that talk with him about finishing real strong at the rim hes been a huge improvement!! For those of you who dont think he would be a help he told Al enough of the soft stuff start dunking the ball...
Lets Go Big AL and Go Jazz!!!

I think you need a couple guys, It isn't fair to dump it all on Big Al.
I do think he can be one of the cornerstones.

Leadership roles need to be organic. I think forcing it to happen can backfire.

Re: Let this be Big Al's Team
Ya I feel like Big Al is in the perfect position to take over the leadership role and thus far I feel like he is doing an awesome job of it. 30/8/4 are leader/beast numbers. He should be our enforcer and lead by example while guys like Millsap, AK and Raja can be more vocal leaders (although Millsap is more of a lead by example guy too).
And while I do feel like Big Al should be the labeled leader of the team, I feel as if the overall spread of leadership is working extremely well right now. Everyone is doing some kind of leading in their own way at this point and I feel like the team plays much better when that happens because they all feel much more responsibility for what happens on the floor. It's one of the reason why the Jazz seemed to play better when Deron was out, guys couldn't rely on him to carry the team and save their butts. Everyone had to step up. Just look at teams with superstars on them and it happens all the time. Take the Lakers for example, most games they just sit around and make Kobe come in and save the day. I feel like the best teams (Spurs, Celtics) have labeled leaders but never rely on one of them to carry them to the promised land. They all take ownership and all lead in their own ways.

Al doesn't have the personality to be the main focus of the team, whether or not he is the best player. I think Harris should be the on court leader.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Big Al is a major piece of the Jazz Future
I know he is far from perfect, but let's look at the numbers for Big Al in comparison to the rest of the Centers in the NBA:
Points per game- 17.6 (4th in NBA)
Rebounds per game- 9.1 (5th in NBA)
Blocks per game- 1.88 (6th in NBA)
Assists per game- 1.5 (9th in NBA)
Steals per game- 0.6 (10th in NBA)
It has taken a few months to find his place with the team, but look at his February averages: 23 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks. Only Dwight Howard is better statistically than Big Al this month or year.
In my opinion Jazz fans need to realize what they have here, a top NBA center. P.S. Big Al is 6ft 10inches, exactly the average height for a NBA center.
I took this from PSD.
Plus Big Al and a two yr from now Favors could be the best big man combo in the league. I love Millsap but he is just to small to be a major long term piece. He will and should start for a yr or two then be traded for a big time 2 guard. Teams love Millsap and he would bring a huge return!!!
